I'm getting my 350Z in about 2 weeks...I have a few people in line I'll be racing and one of them is a Camaro SS. Apparently he raced a 350Z and beat it by a little, but he had done just a few modifications to his car. What are some modifications I can make to the Z to hopefully beat the SS???

I know when I get my Nissan I'm putting a K&N filter on it, but as far as the rest of the mods go you'll have to ask someone a little more seasoned than me...
I'm actually sorta adding a question to your post... my friend was telling me that a Z could get outrun by a GT, please God tell me they're wrong.... I know the Z is a bit on the big and plenty side of the sports car genre but please please please tell me it could whoop a mustang GT... and lots of other cars at that!!

hey....don't worry, it'll take out a mustang GT....I saw it! I was driving back to my house and pulled up behind a stang and the Z waiting at the stop lights....engines were reving (the Z sounds nice) and it took off leaving the mustang in the dust. I feel, besides the higer end sports cars (vettes, vipers, etc.) the Z will have no trouble beating the sports cars in its class except for a trans am, an SS and the new Cobra.

Your getting a new Z in 2 weeks and are going to start racing it w/o breaking in the motor at all? Poor Z :(

No way!!!!! I'm waiting at least 1200 miles before I begin racing or at least putting the car to the test....but those miles are put on quicker than you know it. But of course, I'm gonna break the car in before the car is put to work.

I put a down payment on my Z today!! Needless to say I'm excited but still a little worried seeing as how I'm about to buy a car I've never even sat in before. Thanks for reasuring me about the GTs... there are just sooo many of them inmy town I want to be sure I can whoop them. I just hope I dont regret my purchase for any reason.. I"m so nervous!!

Rather than thinking about it as an expense, think of it as an investment. The Z is going to be one of the greastest sports car ever invented and we are some of the lucky people that will be able to own one. Same with my town, every other car is a Mustang (base, GT, occasionally a Cobra) and I knew when I made my down payment that I was definitely investing in a car that will wreck a mustang. What Z did you order? I ordered:
Touring (6-speed)
Chrome Silver/Black Leather
Nav. system
Floor Mats

I'd love to think of the car as an investment rather than an expense but I"m battling with the fact that cars depreciate in value.. and one of these days Zs are going to be a lot easier to get... so they won't really be a collectors item unless I keep it for 20 or 40 years... it's just expensive thats all!! I still want it though! Every time I get into my car now I find myself slipping off into this little world where Ifeel like I'm in the Z (that I haven't even sat in yet!!)... all I know is that I'm nervous about getting the car... but I know I would be even more upset and depressed if i turned around and DIDNT get it at this point. I just get nervous.. this is one of the biggest investments I've ever made.
I ordered a Touring (auto) You can tell at me for getting the auto, everybody does!! It has one of those clutchless manual modes though.. which I'm looking forward to, seeing as how the clutch is my weakness when it comes to driving a stick. Of course, the only sticks I've driven were an 89 Jeep Comanche truck (horrible.. don't recommend learning on one of those!) and a 98 wrangler... I'd love to learn how to drive a manual on a CAR.. b/c I hear you pretty much only have to tap the clutch rather thanpush it all the way in like on a jeep.. I think I'd like it.. but as for right now the auto suits me just fine (plus its cheaper than the manual on the touring edition!!) I got daytona blue with charcoal leather interior and black leather. I didn't opt for the navigation b/c I pretty much know my way around tuscaloosa :) its not a big town! I also got floormats. If i had been smart though I would have just gotten the Enthusiast (I think thats the lowest model you can get with an Auto) instead of spending the extra cash.. but hey it just seemed like a good value. I'm supposed to get it in 120 days from this Monday.. and if I decide not to get it I can get my deposit back with no questions asked. Which really helps me out a lot.. I don't feel like I'm obligated. I still dont even know how much its gonna jack up my insurance!! Eeek!

I am sure that soon there will be a whole bunch of mods for the Z but right now it seems there really arent any, takes time to research new exhausts and such.
About weither the car will beat a GT, yes. A stock Z *SHOULD* take a stock GT. But that all depends on driver, but rest assured you have the power to do it.
A SS camaro is another matter. You are probably going to have to wait till they come out with a better exhaust and a Nitrous kit, or turbo.
Sorry if it seems I am hating but LS1 engined cars, V8 Camaro's Firebirds and vettes, are a HUGE step above stock GTs and probably a good step above Z's as well.

just to let some of you skeptics know.... I've raced an older Mustang 5.0 and a Cobra.
Beat the 5.0 pretty good.... the Cobra was VERY close but I think I beat him by a cunt hair....
all this with a bone stock Z... just wait til exhaust and chips start surfacing
