Reuse of bearing?

Does anyone have any expirience working with the intermediate (distributor drive) shaft? I melted a something near the bearing and had to clean off the surfaces of the bearing with sandpaper. Is it a good idea to reuse the bearings? I don't want to have to pull the motor so I hope someone can help me on this. Thanks

If you melted the rubber seal, you're probably ok, but if it was metal I'd be concerned. Just the contact with molten metal could deform it. Using sandpaper on it may have created a problem as well. If the bearings have excessive gap, they will seep too much oil and you end up with low oil pressure. If it's the bearing that's on the front of the motor it's not two hard to replace, it is pressed in though. If it's the one in the middle of the engine, it's a bear to replace.

It's the bearing in the front of the engine. Do you have any expertise on removing and replacing the bearing that you could share? I would really appreciate your help. Thanks again Doug.

This is how I did it. Removed the oil pan. Cut part way through the bearing with a hack saw blade on two sides (careful not to cut all the way through). Found a piece of PVC that was the same diameter. Tapped it out with a rubber mallet. I Heated the metal (block) then positioned the bearing and used the same piece of PVC to tap the new bearing in. I'm sure this isn't how a pro would handle it, but it worked for me.
