lowered neon

i have a 2001 neon and i heard that it is possible to lower it by cutting the stock springs. if this works, what is the easiest way to cut it and how much should i cut off for a 1/2 inch drop. i also heart that there is something you can get to put over your springs to squeeze them and lower your car. if so, where can i get them and how much are they? any help would be appreciated.

Actually you can cut the stock springs but i wouldnt reccomend it. Check Ebay for lowering springs i know i saw aset on there for like under a hundred bucks. But if money is short than you can go the cutting the springs way. However I am not really sure how to do it sorry. I have seen some things to lower your car in JCwhitney. BUt i honestly dont think they work. They might lower it a little bit but probably not to your liking.

DO NOT cut or heat your springs. I heated my spring to lower my Neon. I lowered it 3". After 2 months, I was driving to college and actually blew the caps off the bottom of my struts. I work at a speed shop "Street Customs Inc." let me look up to see if there are any options for you. Since your car is new you have to wait for ompanies to make stuff for it.

A 2001 is highly un-new. They've been making springs for 'em for sometime now, actually, you can go nearly anywhere to purchase 'em online. It seems harder to find drop springs for my '97 than it is for any of the 2k+ cars. You can go to www.modernperformance.com www.howellautomotive.com should have some too, even try Ebay. I just searched 'dodge neon springs' and came across 18 matches, most of them included 2000+. Your car isnt that new, infact, they make damn near everything for Neons.

Areospeed just released adjustable coil-overs for the first-gen Neon. I don't know a price yet, but I will be getting them for my '95 Neon. There are pletty of places to get lowering springs, but your better off spending about $50-$75 extra for the coil-overs. As soon as I get the prices and where to get them, I will post it.

My mouth dropped when I seen the prices on Ebay for coilovers for our models... Even the 2k+ models... I believe I seen $70-80 for some... Can you say dizamn!

Yeh. Isn't that sweet. It shocked :shocked: me when i saw the prices myself. I orded mine yesterday. :lol2: And i will be having that kit made for my car. I'm also having a motor built that will make me be running 13's on a 1/4 mile (naturally asperated.)

dont cut stock springs! i did that on my 02 neon and it would have worked but the back springs did not set. And you also give up alot of ride quality by doing that.

dont heat or cut your springs. u can get a thing to go over the springs to compress them, similar to a c-clamp. u just hook them over two rungs on the spring and u can tighten them down on the side. this will lower the car as much as u would like or u can loosen it up to raise it back up. i did this on a 82 malibu wagon because it has tapered springs and could not find lowering springs for it. they make it ride terrible but it is cheap.

You're right... Cheap, probably easy to do... Bud damn, ride is everythin' isn't it? LoL!
I would just go out and purchase them $90 coilovers and drop your car 4" easily! Well, it'll cost a bit more if you needa have someone else install them for you, but if you know what'chur doin' on ur whip, hey, go for it. Speakin' of, I gotta take my car to the shop for some work... Cant do everythin' yourself.

I've been looking for lowering or coilover springs for my 2001 Neon. I've been looking on EBay, that seems to be the best prices, but because I have never bought lowering springs before Im not sure if there is a better brand? And which is better, lowering springs or coilover springs?

Arospeed has good coil-overs. THey ride smooth and don't make noise when u go over a bump.
