I present my latest crazy idea.
http://images19.fotki.com/v365/photos/1/10258/23480/Img_0344-vi.jpg
Take one Revell Dodge Magnum intended to make a Euro-spec 300C SRT-8 Touring, said Magnum missing one headlight bucket, said 300C donor being a bit wide and not an SRT-8, and a desire to do something with it a bit out of the ordinary, a quick glance at my unbuilt stash...and this is what happened :cwm27:
The parts fit between the Aoshima Skyline and Magnum is actually pretty good. Since the photo I've glued the front clip on, added the headlight buckets so I can properly fit the hood/headlight covers/R-34 fender caps, and I've smoothed in the Magnum taillamps in order to convert the rear end to using the Aoshima taillights, which will need some work on the outer bezels to fit the chiseled contour of the Magnum tailgate.
Color will be Mica Silver, wheels will be black, Nismo stripes will be used, it will be badged as a Nissan, I'll use the R-34 wheels, RHD dash and seats, the Magnum SRT-8 6.1 L Hemi (if I can scrounge a pair of Skyline valve covers, and they fit, well...), and hope that WWIII will not begin on A/F over this nutjob conversion

Thanks for the comments, I got a bit more done in the past hour.
I spliced in the front fender corners from the Skyline. Now I'll have to putty the fender to bumper area, widen the hood, and do a bit of work on the front fascia by the wheel openings. The Magnum taillights are now molded in, and will be cut appropriately along w/the tailgate to splice in the R34 units, which will need to have some work due to the different contour of the Magnum tailgate.
I will probably just add a small lip to the rockers, but will use the rear spats from the R34, and part of it's rear bumper-basically the center portion of it so the diffuser/skirt and license area is from the Skyline. I'll also be using the large Skyline rims (the Aoshima rims are larger than the Tamiya ones).
So far I'm liking this one pretty well :) .

Noooo, the aggressive front of the SRT8 is what makes it cool. I'm not feeling it, sorry Bob.
@slk320 you are correct about the HP. I work on these for a living and I've never felt torque like the SRT's before, except in the Viper, and thats a whole nuther ball of wax.

To me the Skyline front end is more aggressive; plus it has more overhang. More like a car, less like a truck. The front end is by far my least favorite part of a Magnum, though the '08 SRT-8 is much better looking than before and has a Charger SRT-8 hood scoop.
But it's no problemo, I knew this car would stir some controversy...can't believe how little tho...my first Skyline on A/F and I'm mixing it with a Dodge :uhoh: :icon16:

Thanks for the replies :)
Answers to the questions are in my previous two postings.
I thought "Stagea" too after I put the parts together; that would be cool for someone to do. Guess my main motivation was a mostly-Magnum car w/o the fugly Magnum front end since the 300C SRT-8 Touring wasn't going to be as easy as I thought. I've got two Magnum kits, and no plans to build either one as a Magnum. If Revell retools the kit to the '08 SRT-8 styling, I'm down w/that. But I doubt it'll happen.

Scorn!! Scorn, scorn, SCORN!! :grinyes:
I'm with Mike- I'm just not feeling this one. The front end looks sleek and quick, and the back looks 70's family truckster. Like putting a Ferrari nose job on a 14 passenger van. I'm not a fan of Dodge's look, but I agree that nearly all the Magnum's agressiveness comes from the (fugly) front end- and without it the rest of the vehicle doesn't seem to convey speed or power.
But quibbles about taste and style aside, I certainly admire your ambition and skill. It's always a pleasure seeing this kind of work and skill in progress.

I had to chime in on this also. The beautiful front end does not really receive any compliment from that Dodge styling. It is a great idea, and I would in no way judge cause it is always fun to try new things. But, I would change some styling cuse from the Dodge to make it more streamline and aero dynamically fluid.

Not bad, i like the idea!
Could you make the entire car look more skyline-ey?
Maybe incorporate the rear round skyline lights into the rear hatch or something (maybe you aready had the idea, but I 'm lazy, don't read everything).
Also, give it a bigass wing, it needs it!
And maybe that typical subaru -skyline type of rear arch widening, a bit 80's style might make it look better even.
Just crappy ideas!
Looking forward to what you will do to it! Just don't put a bigass wing on it. Or, yeah, do it!

Thanks for the comments; this one's been on the back burner for awhile due to other projects in the way.
I grafted the Skyline taillights into the body. You might not believe me if I said this took about 5 times as long as the front end conversion :shakehead and now it looks as sexy as a damned Cobalt :banghead: from the back. Needless to say it's been on the back burner for this reason as well. I have to make some design changes to the rear bumper to line everything up, I'm also taking a section from the Skyline rear bumper. Perhaps later this year I'll get back on it. The front end is 90% finished, and looks better than the last pics I showed. It will not get a giant wing.

BUMP!!
After a year and a half, I've made some progress :naughty:
It's all Veyron's fault, with his terminal case of "Nismosis" :icon16:
I left off not completely happy w/the taillights, I've smoothed them out, and it's almost ready for finished primer. I did a bit of tweaking to the Magnum rear bumper to fit the contours of the new corners created by grafting in the R34 taillight panels. I had thought of grafting in part of the R34 rear bumper, but it wasn't worth the effort for so little change; the SRT-8 bumper looks pretty aggressive already.
An executive decision was made last weekend when modelpaloozing w/Veyron and Mach I 2003; I'm going to simplify my life and glue the hood shut. Nice SRT-8 engine for some other project! This will still have the RHD dash, GTR seats, silver/graphite paint scheme, black wheels, and NISMO stripes.

Bob, this is one mod that's gonna stir up adrenalin man!
Hah, never knew R34 look so good in this form!!!
say, i agreed that the rear gate looked a little plain. i was thinking if you could create some uneven 'contours' using styrene will add some depth to it.
by the way, is the extended roof line at the rear meant to be there as planned? i thought it was a brilliant idea that the tail gate 'opens' & hinges from there! enormous rear opening access!!! haha...
one more thing, the rear gate's opening must be consider here (even if it's not opening), imagine if the gate was to be in 'open' state (just imagine), the rear gate line along the bigger round taillight may looked a little out of place.
just a casual thought...
well bob, it's already a devil build now...make it even more 'hell yeah' (steve austin 3:16)!
gee, now that i've seen your work...i cannot guarantee if my R34 Z-tune will look like what it should be!!! maybe a GTR sedan!?!?
cheers!

well bob, it's already a devil build now...make it even more 'hell yeah' (steve austin 3:16)!
gee, now that i've seen your work...i cannot guarantee if my R34 Z-tune will look like what it should be!!! maybe a GTR sedan!?!?
cheers!

Bob, this is one mod that's gonna stir up adrenalin man!
Hah, never knew R34 look so good in this form!!!
say, i agreed that the rear gate looked a little plain. i was thinking if you could create some uneven 'contours' using styrene will add some depth to it.
by the way, is the extended roof line at the rear meant to be there as planned? i thought it was a brilliant idea that the tail gate 'opens' & hinges from there! enormous rear opening access!!! haha...

Trust me, I've thought of all the above long before this point, I'm happy where it is now and there is no detail that would not work on a real car. I'm not inclined to overstyle the back of the model just because the R34 was a busy/overstyled design (and there are more than enough busy gimmicks/vents in the front). The hatch opening into the roof is the same as a stock Magnum. When the full-width rear glass is in place and all details added like the rear spoiler at the top corner of the roof, there will be plenty of detail back there. I may graft in corner/fog lamps, but nothing more than that. This project has taken long enough to get this far, I'm not going to complicate it any further with superfluous styling gimmicks :sunglasse

A bit more progress, Veyron's Nismosis is contageous
Bodywork has been driving me crazy; just getting little things smoothed out has been a bit of an ordeal and it's never going to be as clean and pristine as I'd like it to be. Oh well, it's silver now with one coat of clear. Next step will be masking/spraying the lower body aero pieces gunmetal, then I'll give the car a good deep clearcoat. The hood slats refuse to smooth out the way I want them to, so I'll probably shoot them satin black. I think all the NISMO stripes will work fine on it, maybe with a bit of trimming. I'm a lot more enthused & motivated now that it's painted
