Sorry Steven, i couldnīt help choosing this topic. And never mind our Daytona -seat-thing! We both put  -smilies behind our post, so no need for your apologies at all!
Originally i didnīt want to show another started project before finishing even one of my old. :banghead: But what should i do, if I am provoked  by one the masters here at AF!? Well, here the pictures i promised you, Steven!
I had a second 612 kit and was wondering what to do with it. Only a different colour and some new wheels was not interesting enough for my taste. Making a 612 Kappa was an alternative, but still not what i was searching for. I think many members in here would like to build a kit of the new Porsche Panamericana, Mercedes CLS, Aston Martin Rapide or even Maserati Quattroporte. Sporty sedans became quite popular and even the very rare Ferrari 456 GT Sedan which was exclusively made for the Sultan of Brunei should be well known for the most car-fans.
So what about converting a 612 into a 4-door version!?:thinkerg:
I searched for some blueprints of Maseratiīs Quattroporte and scanned the Revell instructions to compare the dimensions of both cars.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3237393866616333.jpg
After some Photoshop-work, i thought about what has to be changed. Wheelsbase is nearly the same, windscreen has to move forwards, roof has to be longer, rear window smaller and c-pillars more steeply.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3838306662316536.jpg
Before and after in one picture to see differences.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3136373230633438.jpg
I began with cutting the roof and a-pillars to move it 7mm forward. Holes in the doors were filled with Tamiya-Epoxy.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3533303437303864.jpg
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3434623666363432.jpg
C-pillars were cut right next to the rear window. I also made a cut at the lower end of them from the inside to facilitate bending. Some plastic sheet inside the cut should help to get a symmetrical distance at both sides. The developing gaps were filled up with old sprues and glue.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/6434343466666162.jpg

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3836306537366335.jpg
Rear window was shortened around 3-4mm and roof has to be adapted. I glued the middle roof part on very thin styrene and gaps were again filled with old sprues.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/6236336134343461.jpg
Hhhm, or should i make a 612 Targa instead? :p :grinno:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3332353234643835.jpg
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/6261343763636334.jpg
I wanted to use putty as late as possible In order to get a very firm roof structure and to avoid tears. So i took some plastic from the kit itself again and solved it in glue to make my very own kind of putty. This mix takes a few days for hardening, but at last i achieved what i aimed at.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3764326338636136.jpg
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3630393037323830.jpg
Only little work at the sides to correct the windows.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3436356637356436.jpg
Roof got some putty at last and all changed areas a light sanding to check the shape. I removed the door handles for copying and will put in all 4 at the needed places later.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/61/1561/3637633461303333.jpg
While searching for some reference pictures, i found the following one and i thought this would fit my sedan very well. So i started reproducing this pattern by gluing small stripes on some sheet. But no need for long explanations here, i think. :grinno:
I very well know what bones in your Fingers are for, since the day i cut out the middle part of the seats: They prevent you from cutting off your finger completely, if you slip with your knife.:crying: Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for your hobby.

Nice project!
One thing, if it's not just me, I think the roof is a bit too flat. I know you aren't finished yet...but if you haven't planned too...I would put a bit more roundness to it. Otherwise carry on, soldier.

That is just what I feel. I would like also a while glass roof, cool on a 4 seater ;)

Perhaps, but it's not bad-I think most of the effect can be softened if/when the corners of the side glass at the C pillar are rounded off; if they are radiused smooth like the Maser's the roof will look better.

Painting the roof center gloss black is also an option in case a glass roof isn't feasible.

It's just the kind of stuff that inspires me the most and to which I stumblingly aspire. A creative, bold and original idea executed beautifully :worshippy
As for the seats, thanks for sharing your idea because you have now provided me the solution I could not solve :D

if it's not just me, I think the roof is a bit too flat.
No, itīs not just you. To be exact, i cut the roof again in the meantime, because i was not satisfied either.
Glass roof would be really great, but to difficult to realize for me.
Window corners are not finished yet, but iīm going to let them look more like the ones at the Maserati.
It's just the kind of stuff that inspires me the most and to which I stumblingly aspire.
Thanks, thatīs just what i think about Ping&Pong! :grinyes:

Hey Julian,
finally I get to see the WIP pics after taking a close look at the model last october in FFM.
It sure looks astonishing in reality...and the pictures do it justice :sunglasse
You are moving in february....don't forget that there is an empty parking slot in my showcase
for the time being (it's a slot without a parking meter  ).
Cheers from KA
SEB
PS: Hmmm....looking at those seats again I think i might build my first Ferrari once you cast them :smooch:

Fantastic Julian!!! I always appreciate imaginations and creative works on ferraris. ( I mean REAL decent and reasonable imaginations and creative works, not RICEBOY's tricks and stunts.) That looks really brilliant Sultan Julian!:evillol:
And I'm very happy to have a 612 fellow here. The 612 is one of my most loving ferraris, really a masterpiece and a work of art from Mr.Okuyama. I was thinking of doing all the 612 line including the 2006 version, the 15,000 red miles twins, the GP, the Verona L&Y 2tone, the kappa, the 30th anniversary of cornes... Always too much thoughts and too little time!!:banghead: :banghead:
Keep it up man! Oh and awesome works on the daytona seats as well.

Time for some news. Next thing was to change the doorboards. I cut off the rear of the kit parts and made them longer by using some sheet and Epoxy putty.

DasWiesel...you have to be kidding me. I waswaiting for your Polizei-Porsche to advance. But have that on hold until you finish this amazing modeling you started. Great idea and great execution of all the problems. You makethis look so easy.
Greetings from HRO and good luck with the rest of this project, I sure check on you!

Looks great! Getting an interior to look right is always a challenge. The shapes are so much more complex, and so much smaller. What you've done is nothing short of amazing. Keep it up! I love it!

thanks alot man, i am in pain. first, my jaw came unhinged and fell. secondly, it made a beeline for my crotch, putting me in immence pain, and thirdly, i have lost the will to model. make a resin copy of the body and intirior, maybe sell it as a transkit.

Hell yeah!
what a build!!!
so it all confirms that this indeed, is the new way to go for car modeling!?!?
no more OOB build, cut-up everywhere you can & make a ferrari model no one (not even the plastic manufacturers!) has one!
i like this idea! cal it 'hell-bent' modeling!!!
keep the progress coming, even if it's slow...i know the pain to do such feats too.
cheers!

Thanks again! Yes, this project still exists, but there hardly time left for modeling right now. unfortunately there are more important things i have to do, so i must keep this as a hobby. :frown:
Nevertheless i cut the roof in the meantime again. Wasnīt satisfied because it was a bit oblique. Maybe i can show some update on the interior soon.
I couldnīt resist starting the Ferrari 599, Revells R8 and R10 and finished a nice model, which i finally have to take pictures of. :grinyes:
