Wow, it's been years since I've posted in here.
As of late, I've become a suspension freak, so most of my competition happens in corners, not straight lines. However, my friend's 1997 Miata can give me a run for my money in curves or a straight line... We went from a dig, I hooked a little better than him, and it seemed he would pull through
the midrange while I would pull through the top end. I nudged him out by about 3/4 car at around 80 mph. From a roll, I once again nudged him out by about 1/2 carlength...but he was much too close for comfort.
His car/mods:
1997 Mazda Miata 1.8L
Racing Beat Intake
Headers
Borla Exhaust
Underdrive pulleys
Sways
My car/mods:
1992 BMW 325is 2.5L
K&N Panel Filter
Deleted Cats
H&R suspension

it is surprising that a mazda ca stay with u, but it's not surprising that he can stay with u in corners, mx-5 handling is amazing for the price of them

I do not get why everyone is so surprised that the Miata can not stay with him. It is an entry level Bimmer and the Miata has BPU. They are both nice cars but neither drag monsters.

Good kill. The Mazdaspeed MX-5 is pretty quick, and i've thought about getting one. The N/A version you ran is ok, but not that powerful top end wise.
Time to start modding your car power wise. I'm sure you can find a cheap s/c kit for that car.

It's in the works. An S50 (M3) motor with bolt-ons would put me in the high 13-second territory. I just gotta find a wrecked M3...:)

thats what i've been wanting to do for quite some time, but im lookin for an s52, (e46) motor but they are impossible to find... i got a question though, as far as my experience goes, my first and second gear are strong as all hell but it seems like every race im in third gear is an absolute slouch, i raced one of the new SI's at the track back in october and pulled hard on him through first and second but it seemed like thrid gear he gained WAY more than he should have, and then fourth has power like 1st and 2nd. so i dunno have you felt anything like that?

The S52 was on the E36 M3, not the E46. The E46 (as well as the Z4M cars) has the S54. But you are right in saying that these engines are hard to come by. You would probably have better luck finding a S52 and supercharging it then looking for a S54. You don't see a whole lot of E36s with the newer engine, although I believe its been done.
btw. rumor is that we'll see the E92 M3, at least as a pre-production concept in either March or April this year. Now the question will be whether you want a twin-turbo I6 or a high revving V8 in your 3-series :bananasmi

to be honest im hoping that they put the v8 back in it. they made good power and with the boats for cars they've been puttin out it'll need it. and the 335i is a tt I6 with option of AWD and a few other fun little things but im praying for once BMW will get off their keisters and put some effort into this m3 and go all out because it now has to compete with the 335, so a nice V8 with option of AWD would be nice to see for once. because they've never made one yet so we'll see what happens

V8 back in? There was never a V8 M3. The E30 was a 4, and the E36 and E46 were 6s. Only the M3 GTR had a V8 and that was a very very limited edition road car and a race car. It is pretty general knowledge now that the E92 M3 will have a V8 though.
AWD? Are you kidding me? Do you want the M3 to be heavier? Hopefully the M division will never come out with an AWD car. Don't get caught up in what Evo and STI owners say about AWD being the best thing ever. The only time when I would prefer AWD to RWD would be on a wet track, dirt, or snow. Take two similar BMWs, one with AWD and one regular RWD (say... a 328xi and a 328i). On a dry, normal surface the 328i will almost always win in both acceleration and handling. Leave AWD to the Audis, they can have it.

THANK YOU. AWD bimmers are NOT where it's at, all that extra weight does not help handling characteristics. Although, ther has been a trend of newer car becoming larger and heavier, as more safety, comfort, and unnecessary features are placed in them. For example, the e30 (1984-1991) 3 series was small, light, and nimble. The E36 (1992-1999) gained some weight, but still retained amazing handling characteristics. The E46 (2000-2006) once again added alot of weight with extra comfort and safety features. The new E90 3 series tips the scales at over 3500 lbs!
Given this, I've been considering putting my car on a diet. The AC system is on its way out right now...:evillol:
Also, anyone trying to get an M3 motor is much better off buying a wrecked one. Then you get the motor, tranny, suspension, brakes, diff, and whatever body parts are still usable.
