interior lights gone crazy

1992 seville interior lights come on and off when car is parked and locked
need help and info. bought for my son new stero put in for christmas.
pulled fuse and bulbs to prevent battery drain.:frown: any help out in seville
world.

Some of those cars have the light system supported by some of the electronics in the factory radio.. unfortunately... Its called the VF line.

I expect IF you replaced the old radio back.. the problems would go away.

Im fighting the same thing with my BUICK.. GM..

The Bose hook-up is pretty starightforward in that vintage car ( I have a '93 Eldo with the same radio) and I don't believe that any of the lighting goes through that circuit. I'd go back and recheck your work as well as the door switches.

This is a WAG but if the problem started immediately after the install, then it might be possible that the constant power wire going to the radio is now somehow backfeeding into the circuit for the Retained Accessory Power module. Is there any pattern to the lights going on and off? Is it every 10 minutes?

when the lights come on and go out it is about evey 10-15 secounds

had the car a month before sterio was never noticed the light act up.
sterio dealer said if sterio is working ok that is is what they warinty and have
no idea what the problem is.could cad dealer help?got the car at good price

I'd remove the radio from the car and see if that solves the problem. I believe your car is like my '93 Eldo.
Put the shifter in the neutral position
Pry off the trim plate around the radio
Starting from the upper edge, pry up the console plate that goes around the shifter
Remove the two nuts holding the radio in.
Wiggle the radio out, removing the connectors as you go

My interior lights (95 seville sls) are a little whacky as well. They no longer turn on (just the underdash lights do) on door open. When you push one to turn it on, and then another, all four come on in a dimmed state. Then you have to do it counter-sequentially to turn them off.

When i pushed driver side, then passenger side - then turned pressed driver again, lights turned off but it produced a similar issue to what is described above with lights turning on every 15-25 seconds.

And i think you're on to something folks, cuz what do you know? aftermarket audio receiver (kenwood) is installed. I'm going to take it to my install manager at circuit city tomorrow and see if there is a lighting module that needs to be installed or something of the like and will post back.
