The silver mystery!

at december 31st 1995 I took this picture of a silver F1
http://img14.imagevenue.com/loc248/th_62806_IMG_8970_122_248lo.JPG (http://img14.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=62806_IMG_8970_122_248lo.JPG)
It still remains a mystery which chassisnumber this F1 is.
I researched this:
http://img170.imagevenue.com/loc55/th_62817_IMG_8971_122_55lo.JPG (http://img170.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=62817_IMG_8971_122_55lo.JPG)
at the end of 1995 there were 14 silver F1's made incl. 040, but that had high mirrors (and now is blue)
So 13 remain.
There were 4 different types of silver:
Magnesium Silver
Base Silver
Special Silver (only 1 painted in that color!)
Dark Silver
the chassis' as they were at the end of 1995!:
001 Magnesium Silver
006 Magnesium Silver
009 Magnesium Silver
010 Magnesium Silver
012 Dark Silver
013 Magnesium Silver
033 Base Silver
037 Special Silver
038 Base Silver
040 Magnesium Silver (not an option)
042 Base Silver
044 Base Silver
045 Dark Silver
050 Magnesium Silver
If we know which type of silver this one is it gets better...
Which one could I have photographed at the time. (Notice the interior is completely black..)

I've had this pic in my "001" folder for a while. I think because of the front license plate holder

I searched the whole book of Driving Ambition but couldn't find a single pic of a silver F1 in it with chassisnumber mentioned.
Only indeed 001 in the famous pic with many F1s incl 01R, 10R and XP1LM
Still not sure. 001 had a complete black interior though..

Every shot we've seen of #001 that can be confirmed as that car shows it wearing the original style Citroen mirrors. The car in Patrick's photo clearly wears the Corrado ones.
Patrick - can you produce a high quality scan of this photo? We could positively exclude chassis #001 if we could get a better look at where the door button is on the right side of the car. Up to chassis #003, they still had the circular cutout around that button instead of the U-shaped one seen on all F1s since. There would be no easy way to change that like the mirrors if someone really wanted to.
From your list, I think you can safely exclude #009 since it went to Australia originally, and chassis' #012 and #045 as that color is definitely not Dark Silver. I'd exclude #037 too, since the interior seen in your photograph doesn't match what was in that car. I'd also consider excluding #013 as I think it originally went to Japan and we don't see it's red stripe on the vent line of the door in this shot, which I'd assume was original.

I received confirmation today that chassis #013 indeed went to Japan originally, and has been with it's original owner ever since. Definitely scratch that off the list.
In fact, with all my exclusions, your list now looks something like this:
006 Magnesium Silver
010 Magnesium Silver
033 Base Silver
038 Base Silver
042 Base Silver (unlikely)
044 Base Silver (unlikely)
050 Magnesium Silver
I would have also removed #042 because according to it's original owner the car was new in the Park Lane showroom when he bought it in 1997. Unless this display car was provided by McLaren Cars themself, I can't imagine it would be that one.
Depending on where you actually took this photo I'd eliminate #044 from the list as well, since it's original owner was in the UK so far as I understand. Rather than removing those two I simply marked them as (unlikely) instead.
Once we discover the chassis number that is tied to the Bernd Pischetrieder crash we can eliminate that car. We can also eliminate the Silver/Red car that was wrecked once we determine with certainty what chassis number it was. I was leaning towards calling it #033, but someone provided me with credible info that would conflict with that theory, so for now it remains a mystery unfortunately.

Speaking of silver mysteries, most of my unidentified F1 road car photos are silver. Imagine that...
In my effort to help answer Patrick's question I was taking a closer look through them this evening and realized that 7 of the photos are of one silver car I should have certainly recognized by now. Apologies in advance if someone already had this revelation and posted about it - if so, I must have missed it. Take a look at this trio:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/th_iaa99_bigmac.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/iaa99_bigmac.jpg)
That's chassis #037 which first resided in Cologne, Germany. These pics were all taken at the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA), aka the Frankfurt Auto Show, in 1999. Of note, that was also the show where Mercedes Benz chose to unveil their original Vision SLR concept that would eventually lead to the McLaren SLR. Here are the other four images that I have from the same display.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/th_mclaren_f1_31.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/mclaren_f1_31.jpg) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/th_mclaren_f1_32.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/mclaren_f1_32.jpg) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/th_mclaren_f1_33.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/mclaren_f1_33.jpg) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/th_mclaren_f1_34.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Peloton25/McLaren%20F1%20D/mclaren_f1_34.jpg)

The other thing that caught my eye while looking around was that three of the photos that tak43 has shared of a silver car at the McLaren factory during his visit in 2001 are of chassis #001. You can see the much discussed door button detail in the second two shots. Since XP3 was the only other silver car produced with that detail and it still has the prototype corner lenses, there can only be one option for this car.

Chris made mention of the Citroen-style mirror on the car which he spotted in another image way back when... (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=3475928&postcount=26) At the time, I don't think I knew about the circular recessed area for the door button to make this conclusion.
Adding to that small set - this split image is also of chassis #001 in case that hasn't been mentioned before. :dunno:

Just the lighting in the pic,.... yes, I think the clue to all the siver cars are their interiors.
Also I found this, A present for your little boy.

Perhaps Carbuilder 2002 can make a full size one and park it on his drive, to gain his neighbours reactions before he purchases a real F1!!

To me, all these pics look like the same car, if you ignore the colour of the drivers seat!!
I may be wrong, your thoughts gentlemen.

When listed in the February 2000 issue of the DuPont Registry, the ad for chassis #037 claimed the car was "accident free". Thanks again to Sauc3 for the scan, and mini magic for confirming the chassis number:

What convinces me that the Pischetrieder crash car was not rebuilt is that BMW now have #047 in their collection. Surely if McLaren could have put the BP car back together after the crash it would have gone back to BMW instead of them ending up with the later car to replace it.

From my post on the previous page, these are the ones I believe it could be based on current info:
006 Magnesium Silver
010 Magnesium Silver
033 Base Silver
038 Base Silver
042 Base Silver (unlikely)
044 Base Silver (unlikely)
050 Magnesium Silver

I thought it could be, but wasnt 100% as the number plate has different numbers on it than another (albeit old) pic I have of #67 -

The old pic shows the Florida plate (most likely) worn by the car when Gerd Petrik owned it. In California you have 30-days grace period to register a vehicle when you bring it into the state.
