Do you scrap a project?

I was wondering if any of you fine modellers ever scrap an entire kit/project because something didn't go well, out of frustration, or just lost motivation.
I consider myself a real novice, especially seeing some of your model pics. But I admit that I have scrapped a project recently for the first time in my 30+ kit building career... I still wished that I get my motivation back to work on it. But for now I'm not going back to it. :newburn:
Just to give you guys an idea, it was a Revell/Monogram kit.
Hard to see why you'd do that with a Tamiya kit but have you ever gave up on a kit?

The Union(ex Heller) Porsche 917 was one the worst kits I ever worked with. I keep putting the Corvette C5R which I have 3 of back on the shelf because It sust is a no fun model the ride height looks like a 4 wheel drive. The rear diffuser hangs to low. I wish Revell would really look at the cars they are tryng to do, I winder what they see sometimes. The wheels suck too. It is hard to make a an accurate looking car with it but I keep picking at it once and a while then putting it away.

but now I usually save those kits for people that want me to do a model and have no clue about the hobby. First I see if anything is worth salvaging and then it goes back into the box until later. I do get frustrated alot but usually I just walk away until I feel like modelling again. The Skyline in my signature might not be finished for a long time because I lose my motivation so often!

I scrapped a Honda NSR 500 98 Repsol, cause I messed up the decalling... :(
I still have it though, and maybe someday I'll restart it again...

I try and see a kit out to the end even if it has been a problem...just dont like to think it can get the better of me.

I've scrapped one fujimi 180sx. Broken steering, poor interior masking, poor paint job, I used it as a parts horse for all my other S13s.

Corvette C5R! That's the one!! :greenchai
I had built other Revell kits that usually have major fit problems but in the end it comes out looking ok. At least I get sense of accomplishment after hard work. But I really doubt that I'll ever go back to that Corvette kit. Hopefully last kit that I give up on

but that was way back in the day. it was a Chevy S10 AMT (now you can see why i scrapped it;)) but i didn't pick it out. it was a present. and i messed it up pretty bad, so i ended up throwing it out the window (literally...). my C-West FD has been severly neglected. i was using my airbrush to paint a fender when the chrome yellow i was using suddenly turned rotten-egg green. so since then, i have done NO work on it, and that was almost 5 months ago. i plan to completely stip the body and re-paint because i'm not very happy with the way it turned out. i also still need to fix the issue of the fender gaps. anyways, Daggerlee, you were talking about S13 models?? could you possibly post pictures of said S13 models? i'm currently making one and could use some "motivation", if you know what i mean:ylsuper

Yeah I just recently gave up on a Tamiya Skyline kit. Everything turned out great except the paint job, a broken head light and losing a tail light, not to mention the paint job witch I srewed up 3 times!!! :flipa:
So in the box it goes where the parts will be used for other kits.

now that i heard you guys scrapped a kit or two i feel less guilty. i really don't understand why Revell/Monogram can't do better fitting/looking models more often. well i was explained that american market is different from japanese..
well, i'm working on Calsonic Skyline GT-R R34 now so i'm much happier. :frog:

oh gosh i have had like 5 revells i have gotten pissed off at ...
One was a Z06 that my girlfriend gave me...the paint was shitty and the body had warped or something and didnt fit right..so i got it all done and it looked like shit. So i took it outside..put it under the wheel of my truck...backed it up...crunch..
needless to say i was very pissed and i had to buy a ZO6 quick so my girlfriend wouldnt know...
Also the Datson 510 Tuner from Revell isnt going well..the wheels are MINI and TINY and dont look right.. so its still in the box awaiting a kit with some extra tires.
Also..i think there is something wierd with the mold for Corvettes @ REvell because i had a regular C5 and the body was twisted yet again..thats 2 down
ALSO i was putting together a 67 Vette and i lost the windshield..so i got pissed and through it down the driveway...broke it in pieces...
im not a patient mistake maker :D

I also gave up on a kit before, it was a crappy china *shhhh* (illegal) copy of an Aoshima Lexus LS400. The thing was made out of Rubber and ABS plastic. Nothing, I mean not a single part wanted to fit together. That'll teach me to never built another *cough* copy kit.

I've only destroyed a Completely done Tamiya Honda CBR 1100xx Super Blackbird in the "With Me" color scheme. I was done with it and screwed up a decal on the front fender and I smashed it. I had a bad at work and came to finish it up. That was a no no.
I love revell kits! I really do. Even the C5R's, and the Porsche EVO's, and crappy NSX with monster truck tires, and the trucks with all the sink marks in the frame rails, and the ITR's with incorrect bodylines and height, and the....... and well, you get the picture. It just means more for me to work with.
IMO, I think all plastic model kits are crap! And the resin versions are even worse!!!!!
Well, enough bitching and whining. Just build the damn things!!!!!
These are all reasons we love this hobby-Walter

If kit doesn't go well and it have problems which I can't fix, I put it on side. Usually I take parts from that models in spare parts box from where I take parts for some other projects.

I just recently scrapped my fujimi CTR, the one I was going to light up, I got realy frustrated with the paint job, of course it was my own fault. I went out and bought the tamiya 350z, half way through I decided why not? I pulled the lighting system out of the CTR and grafted into the Z, I am very pleased with the results, I've started a thread on it.
