Whats your guy's take on Synthetic Motor Oil. I'm running Amsoil 5w-30 in my 98 GA GT 3.1 with just about 85,000 miles. It seems to really help when warming up in the cold michigan winters. Though when I got it changed, they said my previous oil level was 1/2 quart low...that makes me sad cause when I first got the car it didnt leak anything. Let me know what you guys think of synthetic oil. :grinyes:

Synthetic oil is excellent for preventing engine wear and provides superior protection for rotating components. I recommend it to anyone who asks. As for the Amsoil, I have used it and found it to be excellent especially with the long drain intervals. I currently use Mobil 1 Extended Life.
Every engine will burn some oil and as the engines wear due to mileage that consumption is likely to increase. You didn't say how long you ran the oil but being down 1/2 quart doesn't seem to be a huge deal as far as I am concerned.
If you think the oil was lost due to leakage then find the leak and repair it. It may just be a valve cover gasket that is the issue. Good Luck!

LOVE synthetic oil, I use mobile1 though full synthetic in my 99GASE3.4L
Never heard of Amsoil or w/e lol, your oil might be leaking :dunno: or it could be burned up somehow, never heard of that stuff so dunno lol

I've been using synthetic in my 3/4L SE too.
I think it even runs quieter and gets better mpg then with standard oil.
not cheap though :grinno:

Synthetic oil is a good thing to run after the motor is broke in, don't ever try to break in a motor with it though ... the rings never seat & will burn oil. This isn't the case with your car though, im sure it came from the factory with standard oil in. If your not seeing drips on concrete when your parking over it chances are its not leaking, its burning. burning oil isn't a bad thing, as long as you check your oil ... my brother has had a ranger that burns 1 quart of oil every 3000 miles, ever since it came off the lot new, it now has 187,000 miles on it, and he'd still be driving it everyday if he wasn't driving over an hour each way to work. My s10 had 100,000 on it, never lost oil a day in its life since new, I let one oil change go to 6000 miles instead of the normal 3000, never thought twice about checking the oil before a 4 hr drive each way, got home & changed the oil, it only had 1.5 of the 4 quarts in it. Obviously my motor now has alot of wear b/c of this, but now has 145,000 on it and burns 1 quart every 3000 miles. Yep you read that right, still running the orig motor 45,000 miles after I ran it that low on oil, and it still runs like a champ, but I think I need to change the water pump now (and replace the orig coolant ... oops sometime I put things off too long ...). So this is the long way of saying ... don't worry about a little oil consumption, just keep changing your oil frequently & check it often.

Ok, sorry for replying so late. I forgot I had this post and then remembered about it. :) To answer your question about my car. It had been running regular oil since I bought it and then I switched it to the Amsoil the second oil change since owning it. I had only run it close to 3,000 miles before getting the oil changed and then switching it to synthetic at that time, when they told me that it was 1/2 quart low. yeah synthetic is expensive. It was 34 bux for 5 quarts of Amsoil and then i had to bring it to a place to get it put in and all the good stuff changed :) hope this helps...yeah i think if it'll end up leaking it'll be the main oil gasket in the back of the engine..i have bad luck haha with vehicles. thanks for all the help you guys! :grinyes:
