I have a 2000 Crown Vic LX, I seem to get conflicting answers when I ask
if My 4.6 is the PI engine or not.
anybody know for sure?
If not is a swap of heads and manifold a direct swap?

Look at the 8th digit in the VIN. Then go here (http://www.ford.com) and look at the VIN lookup. It will give you the info you seek. If it is not a P71 vehicle, uless the engine has been changed, it is not a PI engine. All parts are interchangable on the 4.6. Doesnt matter if it was a P71 platform or not.

If it's badged a LX then no, it's not a PI. Not sure why you would want to change the heads and manifold to PI (don't forget the ecm) the little extra power isn't worth the cost and work. You might want to look at your gear ratio, if you want some extra kick.

i think he is talking about the pi(performance improved) engine. the vic and grand marquis did not get that until '01.

police cars and civilian cars both get the same engine.

just put the pi intake on if you want the extra 15 hp. it is almost a direct bolt on. you will just have to rtv some areas depending on which gaskets you use.

there are tech tips out there on doing this mod. Google rocks. :)

personally i would do other mods first. see my Sig.

if you want to get the pi intake because of performance there are better options. if you want to do it because you want to upgrade to the aluminum crossover before it ruptures, this i can understand.

Heads & Intake VS chip reflash? Hmmmm, for the pain and trouble, I'd go with a chip reflash. Cost is about the same unless your uncle owns a salvage yard; and it takes less than 15 min to do the change!
