Hello all,

Does anyone knows how to install a aftermarket stereo? I already installed the stereo in my 84 caprice, but I don't have any memory. Evertime I shut the car off adn restart it, I lose all my settings.

Thanks.

Your stereo should have two power connectors - one yellow and one red. Usually, the red one is power and the yellow one is memory - could be the other way around as well ... check your manual. The one that says "BAT" needs to be connected to a battery terminal on the fuseblock - a connector that has power on it no matter what the switch position. If you have this lead connected to an ignition switch source (no power when switched off), you will encounter the behavior your deck is exhibiting.

You can get adapter harnesses that make installation easy. Just solder the leads from the adapter to the leads from the deck harness, then plug the factory harness into the adapter harness and everything should work as intended. You can also get adapter kits to fit the single DIN deck into the one and a half or double DIN opening in your dash, so everything looks clean and tidy.

I did this on a 84 monte and a 87 s10, you need to hook up the constant to the orange wire from the original sterio. If it is gone(cut, missing) you can splice into the cigarette light wire or run a new one.
