help this old dude who also is a newbie to hondas, please.
through a wonderful set of circumstances, my 16-year-old son ended up with a free 88 accord lxi with fuel-injected 2.0 liter last spring. it is a five-speed.
we have had to put a few hundred dollars into it to keep it going, but the engine, with 178,000 hard miles on it, is in need of crank bearings and other bottom-end work. this thing still does not blow smoke. it's got a new timing belt, water pump, etc. now then, here's the question: re-build it from the bottom up with racier pistons, cam, etc. that will yield more power, or swap in one of the semi-low-mile new japanese engines with more power?
the accord needs a new front bumper, right headlight motor and a litte upholstery work, but the body is very straight and will werit a paintjob. it also needs struts, springs and strut mounts. because it was "free" and because the body is in such good shape, i think it's a bargain to essentially build it into a new car.
suggestions? many thanks ahead of time. meanwhile, i will look through the archives and FAQs.

With money any motor will fit!!!! ;)
It all depends on how long you want to spend on it and how much you want to put under the hood suspension is cheap a set of Koni's and some springs $700 race ready and ready for a sunday stroll!!! What interior parts are bad?? I have the full interior out of a 93 accord stuff like the seats might be swapable?? :)
