Hey well i got a 1998 eclipse GSX. I am going to get an engine imported from Japan(with 30,000 miles). First question, should I get the engine only or get the engine and the trany too..... Im also gonna upgrade the turbo but not sure sure with which one i should go for got any suggestions? Keep in mind i want to push at least 400 hp to 550 hp. Another thing people say that the bigger the intercooler is the less cold air it will push, can someone clarify that for me..... Any more suggestions for mods to push at least 400 hp i would i appreciate it.

Dude, you have ALOT of reading to do. www.dsmtuners.com has an upgrade path in the tech section, READ IT. Why would you want to import a motor in from Japan? Buy a 4g63T from a 90-92 GST/GSX/TSI/TSI AWD, rebuild it, and drop it in.

Hi welcome to the forums and I'm going to assume that your pockets are bottom-less? With the plans that you have in mind it's going to take more than just slapping a big turbo on and doing some fancy double clutching. Do some searches on here and on google and you'll find all sorts of stuff on what you plan to do.

You can push 400hp with out an "imported japanese" motor. I think you have alot of reading to do my friend. Start out here http://www.dsmtuners.com/sub.php?page=2gtupgrades If I was you I would look into a tranny from http://www.sheptrans.com/ if you really want one. This guy rebuilds your stock tranny to make it bullet proof. This guy currently is running something like 7.9s with his street legal first gen dsm. I think your making this more complicated that it has to be. These cars are very easy to make fast with little investment. As of now my car has maybe 1,000-1,200 and will run low-mid 13s. I just got a head completely built with cams and all for about 1,000 bucks and I am hoping to break into the mid 12s. So for about 2,200 or less you can have a 400hp 12 second dsm no problem. I didn't even have to import a motor... Oh and Welcome to the forums.

Why do you want to import anyways?

I think whats up here is he has the misconception that many early tuners do. "Japan is better" Many tuners you talk to go on and on about JDM blah blah blah. Some even go as far to put chinease symbols on their cars haha. Anyways the point here is that a importing a motor from japan would be ridicoulously overpriced. All you have to do is buy a 4g63T motor here in the US, put a grand or two into it and be done with your 400hp dsm.

hey thanks guys for the info... Well i have done some research but the websites you guys referred are great. About the engine from Japan, my pistons are really bad in my car, some advise from people i grew up with said just get a Japanese engine and dont worry about rebuilding it and stuff..... Anither thing is that i heard that Japanese engines are a bit faster because they are not limited as to their perfomance...... Any one has any feed back on electrical suspension kits (not air bags or hydraulics)..... I found it on ebay but i cant find anyone who knows if its really dependable....

Any Japanese motor you import will be almost identical to the one in your car. Just re-build the motor you have. I would never trust an electrical suspension. A nice coil-over setup will do you just fine.

Well what do you want? There are literally hundreds of combinations of parts that will give you anywhere from 250-1500 hp, you need to know exactly what parts you're going to have, exactly how much power you want, and what your budget is.

it'll do ya no good, unless you gotta dump truck motor to drop in your Eclipse... lol...
My Talon would be at 9k before I saw any boost on that... lol...
it is indeed, a monster turbo... (for tractor pulls BTW)

Oh I never said it was going in my car. One of our trucks needs a "little upgrade", might as well make it a monster! Haha.
