Ignition system...92 Geo Metro

Hello everyone. I have done some measurements with my testmeter. Distributor pickup resistance should be between 104 and 180 ohms. My reading is 181.2. Also primary and secondary coil resistance is slightly under what's normal. Would these two, if they're off, cause problems like slow starting, rough idling?

By the way, for those of you who have been watching my posts, I cleaned my EGR passages and EGR valve. Now when the EGR is depressed the car wants to stumble and die, so that's working good now.

Ohm reading on the EGR VSV valve is right in the middle of the recommended ohm readings, so that's working good too. EGR modulator valve seems to be working good too, but one side of it seems blocked for some reason, but I'm sure it has to be hooked up to work correctly.

I did get a MSD high vibration coil, that's coming in the mail tomorrow. Going to hook that up. That should make a slight difference in starting and running I would think.

Let me know, everyone, if I should get a new ignition pickup for the distributor. Didn't realize they were so expensive ($90)!

Anyway, looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Dan

PS. Haven't gotten around to doing a compression check yet, but I want to check everything else so I can probably narrow it down.

Dan you want to keep that EGR working. Non-working EGR = burnt valve. That's how I got my 98 metro for $400 it had a burnt valve and the EGR was clogged on both side's. The intake side was a sob to get cleaned. I put 200 miles a day on it so it has just about paid off the intial $400 investment in gas savings in about 5 months. Another 3 or 4 months and the $350 for head, gaskets. & re-ring kit and it's free. you gotta love these little cars. Next I''ll be looking for some performance a 3tech head & cam should help a lot in that deparment

how come the 89-early 91 have no egr and run around just fine without burning valves? i have put a couple non egr manifolds on some of the 92-94 metros i have put new engines in and they are still running around just fine with no problems

Also make sure your egr holds vacuum. Sounds like yours it's working the way its suppose to. With the car off, push in the diaphram, and hold your finger over the vacuum ports. The diaphram should not go all the way back down.

I was messing with it yesterday a lot. I would put my finger over the port, and try to press in on the diaphragm and it was very hard to, if at all. So it is working. BUT I might as well get another one that's cleaned.
