Has anyone had problem with power stearing fluid leakage on their 740i?
What is the bast way to get to the pump and hoses if so? Do I jack up the front of the car and go under or is it better to wedge myself in from the top?:bloated:

I just went through it. I paid for an independant BMW mechanic to do the work. The major leak was with the hose from the pump to the box. Also the aluminum fittings were bad. I paid $400 to have it fixed. Took the mechanic over 2 hours to replace, and the part is not cheap. I only hope I didn't get TOO taken on the deal.

That is exactly what happended to me as well. It cost me $118 in parts and 2 hours of labor. But no problems since then. I am up to 124,000 miles now so I guess that is pretty good for one of these sleds.

I'm having a similar problem I have a leak in the power steering system first I replaced the pump because it was bad and then I developed a leak I suspect is in one of the hoses along with that the power steering pump howls real loud while turning the wheel and consantly while driving puts off a loud humming noise can any one give me a pointer?

You do not indicate what year / model you have, however that howling is likely due to the pump starving for fluid. In the bottom of the fluid reservoir is a small filter that becomes clogged over time, reducing the amount of fluid getting to the pump and causing cavitation. Siphon out all of the fluid and dissassemble the reservoir. Replace that filter and fluid, and the howling problem should be resolved. The lack of fluid may have caused the failure in the first place.
