Alternator compatibility...

A member of the forum has a Hitachi OEM alternator that he bought for a 97 Rodeo. Question - Will it also fit my 95.5 rodeo (3.2, V6, 4 groove pulley)?

Thanks!

Let's try a different route...
Where can I get part #'s for the alternator. I can't seem to find one definitive number from more than one website.

Call the Isuzu parts department at St. Charles Automotive Group in St. Charles, MO. They'll let you know. I don't have the # offhand...

I usually go to http://www.pprok.com/ click on the catalog pic, then isuzu, then the model. Click on their part number for the one you want, then click on "interchange" in blue lettering near the top right.

Unfortunatly they dont list 95.5 so I dont know if its the same as '95 or '96. If you can get the oem # of the one you have now then you can cross reference it. They list both groups as having 4 groove pulleys.

I'd aim more for the 96 engine year, moreso then the '95 year - and, parts for a '97 should be identical for the 96yr.

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for! I know to stay away from bigboxstores and all, would a Hitachi alternator fit the bill for a suitable alternator? I'm not too sure I want to try an OEM salvage yard alternator from ebay - seems that 12 years might have taken its toll on an alternator...

The "newer " of the two has a four pin plug whereas I believe the earlier model only has three pins on the plug.

AHHHH!!! What do I do? I will be installing a new alternator on Friday Feb. 2, whether I have a new alternator to put in or not!!! :)

Just in case I might want to drive the Rodeo that weekend, what do I need to do to get an alternator that fits, at a good price?

At first I was dreading the actual installation; seems that the prep work is what is really killing me...

Any help?

Boy, they really made those 96-97 yrs *different* didn't they - so many little differences that really add up.

Thanks for the info, Canuckle, very important info!

Another question, while we're talking alt's, can the '97 yr be fitted with a higher amp alt?? Amazes me, how such a voltage happy family (Isuzu's) are installed with such low amp alt's.

Is it more than likely that a bigboxstore alternator will fail? Seems that I might be making more than one trip to get the correct alternator and time is not on my side; I will only have one weekend to get the job done. Someone has mentioned NAPA - part # ? brand name?

Rodeo has me more stressed out than the myriad of assignments due before Feb. break.

napaonline.com shows 2 different numbers for 96, one of them is the same as they show for '95. This is for the Hitachi rebuilt by Bosch (has a bosch part number).

They show AL4434X (http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BSH&PartNumber=AL4434X&Description=Alternator+-+Remfd) for '95 and '96. And a AL4439X (http://www.napaonline.com/masterpages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BSH&PartNumber=AL4439X&Description=Alternator+-+Remfd) for '96 which I'm guessing is the later year model with a different plug.

I would go with the bosch since they seem to last in these trucks. And the OEM alt was hitachi so they are most likely rebuilt OEM's.

EDIT: guess I should have read the description says the 4434x fits through 6/96 and the 4439x fits after 6/96. and for some reason the links dont show the prices..

AL4434X $194.00 core $83.00
AL4439X $189.00 core $83.00

yes stay away from the bigboxpartsstores rebuilds.

just call around the independent parts stores in your local area and find one that will get you the rebuilt by bosch using gizmo's numbers to verify what their parts lists tells them. bosch does the best job imo of rebuilding quality at a good price for what you get.

good luck (now the fun begins....)

I'd say you need the AL4434X - one. Definitely get the Bosch, seem to last well.
