transmission problems

My 99 ranger will only go in reverse and second. When in drive the engine just revs up and tires wont spin. When i put it in first the transmission seems to slip and it wont go but in second it goes fine just wont shift.

Hate to sound fatalistic but it looks like your xmission is shot.
