what year cougar should i get

Ok I wanna whats up to everyone out there im new here yadayadayada ok I want a cougar Im thinking a early 90's v6 supercharged one becuase its got good horsepower and torque plus gas prices 5spd of course any suggetions on what i should look for problems etc please reply

only advice i can give you is stay away from the 99's and 2000's, if you want the newer style try to get ahold of an 01 or 02

nah i like the early 90's ones i really like the 60's ones but that to much money but yea the new body style looks cool but i want 3.6 v6 with a supercharger or v8 but that would cost alot in gas haha

I think it was just a type-O but it is a 3.8 v6 not 3.6.

I know you will want to look for an XR7 because I think that was the only type that had the 3.8 SC and the V8. But I really don't know a lot about mn-12 cougars.

I have a 95 cougar and love it. 4.6l . The SC are nice. Dont' be fooled by the super coupes v-6 they still suck down the gas. Depending on how you drive.

Problems with a 17 or 18 year old supercharged car? :slap:

Unless you find one that has been stored with only like, 3,000 original miles
or personally know someone that has done all the necessary maintenance & repairs,
I suggest you find a nice '96 or '97 MN-12 with a 4.6L V8.

You can always do a manual tranny conversion & add a Vortech supercharger if you want.
You will spend just as much money, probably less,
& you will have a car that spends more time on the road, rather than being fixed.

I still swear by the 95 4.6 Im pushing 200,000 on the odometer and still a very dependable ride. Had to completely rebuild front end suspension along with rear end but motor is still original.

The duratec motor is a great engine, but for reason those years had some goofy issues with electronics, etc.

No, they had an issue with the oil pickup tube being to short and the oil baffels not working the way they should.

They make a kit now if you have a pre 99 Duratec for $150 that replaces the oil pickup tube and the failing baffels. They finally fixed this problem in the 2.5L's after 2000, so all 2001+ 2.5L's do not have this problem. Also the oil channels in the heads are very poorly designed and a much better flowing head design in the 3L which other than a few things and bore size, they are identical engines.

Any who, this is why if you went around a turn to fast the oil would not be held still by the baffels and the to short pickup tube would get air locked and you are almost guaranted to throw a bearing in the lower. This issues with the poorly flowing heads compliment this problem and make it a very expensive mistake that almost everyone encounters with a 2.5L duratec.
