Need help with bm shifter

I have installed an B&m hammer shifter, either I am doing something wrong while shifting or there is siomeyhing wrong with the shifter hook up. It stays in 1st gear, shifts into second, but can't keep it in 3rd gear. Could someone pleae help me, thank you:shakehead
