I was wondering if anyone has purchased a pacesetter exhaust for there 1st gen dsm, and what they are like as far as sound and performance

Whole system or just a header? I've heard good and bad about Pacesetter exhausts.

If you don't mind me asking, how much do they want? I personally like the Apexi N1, that's waht I have.

Pacesetter has totally mixed reviews from people, sending a very confusing idea about what quality poducts they make.
Honestly, custom exhausts FTW. Mix and match your own cat/test-pipe, muffler(s) and tips. I just got a nice exhaust on the 3000GT, with a Magnaflow muffler, my own choice of double walled chrome tips (pair) and sweet mendrel bends all the way, $400 out the door. The exhaust note now has the "wail" of the 350Z, but deeper, and I love it.
But, them again, if you get the entire deal for a decent price, that might be worth it too...it's jus personal preference, since I wouldnt ever get a pre-bent brand-name exhaust system (way over priced...the Borla catback for the GT SL was $900, f'ing ridiculous, and I bet mine sounds sweeter, lol).

I like my Megan one. Cheap as hell and though it sounds great I dont care what it sounds like. Are you talking turbo or nonturbo car?
DimShady

right now its a non-turbo, but i might take that step later, right now i just wanna do the basic firsts

The header will become useless to you if you plan to go turbo, just so you know.

I've heard bad things about pacesetter turbo manifolds but as far as headers I've only heard good things. I think your pretty safe with an exhaust though

What I did on my dsm is bought an Apexi N1 muffler and had a catback custom made and just used that muffler. not counting the price of the muffler it was $140 for labor and parts and stuff.

I support Borla and the price of theirs, they make some badass exhaust systems. They're not like Greddy and do a half-ass test of the product and way over-charge, they test their shit time and time again before they get it right. Granted Borla may be spendy, you get top quality from them.

hey i got a pacesetter turbo manifold off ebay and payed 350 for it. i thought that is was nice as crap and it would be a great upgrade from my first gen manifold. it turned out to be a peace of crap. i only had it for 6 months and it cracked and i could not get ahold of the guy that i bought it from. so be careful. my best bet turned out to be the second gen ported manifold. it works alot better.

Thats what I was saying. What I've heard is that they cant support the weight of the turbo and will eventually break under stress but for just header/s they are great. My buddy actually has a set on his maro(450whp/600whp on nitrous)

Meh... It's been said before: "a pipe's a pipe!". After a certain threshold, I can't really justify the price. E.g., even though Injen makes relatively expensive intakes, their legitimacy lies in the fact that their intakes are CARB certified or pending. One mendrel's just as good as another, so the only thing that would make a difference to me, personally, would be the way it sounds (via choice of brand and positioning of the muffler and cat) and the way it looks (the tips). I'd be very suprised if my car didnt get equal or greater performance numbers (as laughable as they are for an NT DOHC car) on the exhaust I got locally, compared to a Borla. Sound and looks are completely subjective, so to each their own.

:uhoh: Wow. Ouch. On my Spyder, the guys did a completely custom dual-exhaust, with two mufflers, chrome double-walled tips, and really, really elaborate piping (I wish I had taken a pic, they really tucked in the piping perfectly, desipite it being a tight squeeze, all mendrel)) for $600 out the door. I imagine that for a single exhaust it should be way cheaper. So I definitely think youre getting screwed at $725 for single out catback!

I agree with you Shpyder, but I will vouche for Borla for many reasons. You're right, a "bend is a bend," but how and where those bends are made make a huge impact on exactly how the exhaust flows. The only exhaust system I will "overpay" for is Borla, but not only because of looks and sound, but also because of performance. I bet if you took a custom mandrel-bent exhaust and a mandrel-bent Borla exhaust, I can almost gurantee you that the Borla will out-perform the custom exhaust, solely based on their test and experience trials. I will never pay $900 for a GReddy exhaust, but I'd pay $900 for a complete Borla exhaust any day.

I had complete custom exhaust on the Stealth (dual exhaust BTW)... and that costed less than $800(retail, for piping and all the custom work involved)... it actually cost a/b $400, but I didn't pay for it... the previous owner did, and he got it all at cost, b/c he was a mechanic and raced the car...

You got shitted. They only cost $150 brand new.
Oh yea. We put pacesetter headers on my friend's 95 z28 camaro and they are pretty decent. The only problem was that one of the tubes would rub the steering shaft making it hard to turn.

Geez, you guys get raped on exhausts... I just recently got the hook up for a new company and will soon have my full 3" stainless exhaust done for less than 200 bucks. Of course thats us welding it all outselves and shit. I would never pay some of these outragious prices for exhausts... Custom exhausts for the win.
