sleeper question

So I'm in the market for a sleeper. I live in Nebraska and the cops get bored and profile w/e they can lol. To put that in perspective I just sold a 95' red Bonneville with tint and 17" rims and the cops were always on my ass. Anyways I've always kindof thought of the sleeper as having a sortof grace in itself and I've been thinking about what would make a good one? I was thinking about a Mitsubishi Diamante would make a great sleeper, or a early 90's late 80's BMW. I just want it to have an aesthetic appeal ya know. Not like some station wagon with a 350 under the hood kindof thing.

The price range would be 5 to 6 grand, that doesnt include the mods.

95+ Accord V6
I got my 95 ex V6 around 100K miles, leather, sunroof, etc great condition.
120k miles now no probs, honda gives free tune ups for 95-97 accords.
I got it for 5 grand in NJ.
If you want better than that you can go suck on a lemon.

P.S you can shift the auto from 1-4, 0-60 mph around 7 seconds.

Are Nebraska cops realy that bad? I'm 15 and I'm also from Nebraska and I want to know if the cops are really going to ride my ass wen I start driving.

Most of nebraksa is uneventful so they jump at everything they can. You might be lucky and live in an easygoing town but chances are if your speeding theyre gonna be on you. Just be safe and drive the limit trust me i lost 270 dollars because of speeding

Okay. I'm in Omaha and there should be enough crime downtown to keep cops busy. Although I did see this one dude that got pulled over, he DID have a huge ass intercooler on his eclipse.

Turbo Dodges (Spirit R/T, Le Baron, etc) The Spirit is pretty quick stock...high 5's for 0-60 and high 14's in the quarter mile. Mods are cheap for them too

Chevy Caprice with the LT1.

Almost any truck...

*Edit* Volvo 850 T5-R if you can find one

I'm in Omaha Nebraska as well. I haven't had any cops give me any trouble here thus far. He seems in smaller towns it gets a lot worse though. A Grand Prix GTP is a great sleeper and they can be made fast for cheap. Where exactly in Nebraska do you live?

I know almost nothing about it...I'd google "Volvo Forums" and see what shows up, but I did see a really sick video of an 850 doing a burnout from about 60 mph roll.

If youve ever been to eagle raceway, I used to walk to work there from my house. Otherwise I live about 15 miles outside of Lincoln.

And that volvo doing a 60 mph roll is badass dude lol that makes me want one alot. Thanks for the tip.

That video made me want one real bad too, but I still can't find any in decent shape around the Chicago area...one day I will find one though.

Ha, I just saw a 850 T5-R ( kind of a bannana yellow) driving down Dodge street in Omaha. I guess that goes to show that there are some around here you could start looking for.

I live on Pacific really close to Dodge, and I can hear street racing from my house. In other news, the second gen Taurus SHO is an swesome sleeper. I'm looking into one myself.

SHO = garbage IMO. Pontiac made the Grand Prix GTP to compete with the SHO and quite frankly the SHO does not do it's job to compete IMO. It is not only slower but is not nearly as easy to make fast as the GTP.

idk much about the SHO but ive heard there are engine issues

I haven't really looked at the GTP, so I wouldn't know, but I still like the SHO a lot.

on my monte carlo forum there are alot of people trying to add performance that use the GTP as a power reference. i dnt have anything against the SHO

Andydg

It take A LOT of make an SHO fast. A guy I worked with for a while had one and put close to 2 grand into the engine and he was still running something like high 14's. He usually did road racing and autocross though which it did very well at.

Aphix

Thats extremely slow for two grand unless he invested in stuff for the autocross and all and wasnt focusing on speed so much. If fact you could buy a monte carlo z34 like I have and put it in the 13s for about that, and with a V6 engine.

Yeah I know...he put that into the engine (cam(s), exhaust, intake manifold, etc.) That car was slow as all hell in a straight line for the money that he put into it but it was very quick in the road races and autoX events.

Thats pretty cool. I wouldnt have bet on a SHO in a autocross show so i bet alot of people were like wtf when they saw that lol.

What good mods are there for the Z34 then?

Aphix
01-30-2007, 05:01 PM
Digital Horsepower PCM= about 20 hp
Turbo kit= around 100 hp
Hot Cam= around 40 hp
Roller Rockers= about 15 hp
Intake And Exhaust = 20 hp
M90 supercharger = around 70 hp? Idk for sure but its a very popular mod

This is what I can think of off the top of my head. The 13 second Monte had to do with the turbo kit. Along with these if you were to get a supercharger or possibly a turbo you would buy a L67 engine to drop in. Its the same price as just changing parts on the stock L36 but considered a better alternative to buy the L67.

Yep, the SHO is so much harder to mod than the GTP too. The GTP looks far better IMO as well. The thing is with the GTP is that is already supercharged so modding is a breeze. You can put them into 13's with less than $1000. SHO is going to be stuck in 14's or even still 15's more likely after that much money. The SHO is just too much of a family sedan. While the Grand Prix GTP can still be a sedan and on hell of a sleeper it still has a very nice look to it.

Oh, and you would be better off just going with the superchraged Monte Carlos (which will get pricy because they did not s/c them until 04) but I would just stick with the s/c GTP. It is not that much more money and it comes with a stronger tranny.

Aphix
02-01-2007, 11:27 PM
Yea the GTP runs an L67 engine and they dont come any stronger than that for the 3800 series. Theres a beefed up tranny too I believe? Yeah once you get that engine you dont have to worry about much physical damage. What I love about the GTP is it has such an aggressive look. And even though its a little ricer I like a low profile bumper kit on it. Only thing I dont like is the fact that alot of people have them. I see about one a week and theres even some chick at my school who has one and I dont even think she understands what engine it has. But I guess that just adds to the sleeper look. Debadged the thing would great. Ive seen people who think theyre hot shit with their GP stock and they try racing and I just laugh.
