Just a possibility, but...

Maybe he's reading upside-down on purpose? I used to do this in High-School when one person would read aloud and everyone else had to "follow along". I'm a fast reader and flipping the book slowed me down to the speed of the reader-alouder.

As for the "Nazi" salute there... At my high school, when the addition was finished, all the clocks were set to military time, and the bells sounded like dying cows. I was waiting for him to come on the PA system and announce that the whole school would be going on a tour of the newly refurbished gym showers :rolleyes: During an evacuation (due to gas leak) the Vice Principal cleared his throat with his hand to his mouth, and proceeded to make that exact gesture. How nice, eh?

Its not that their actually evil or stupid, but its funny how a simple gesture can be used for cheap humor. :)
