i'm pretty sure the motor for the window has died, and the window is stuck in the up position. we have a replacement part, but aren't sure exactly how the window attaches to the clips on the rails, or how to get if off. we just took the door apart and couldn't get it figured out and are taking another stab at it later. any advice?

Buy a $15 -20 Haynes or Chiltons maintenance manual or a $15 subscribtion at Alldata.com. May not be your case but, it always amazes me how people will spend big bucks on parts, sometimes draining their wallets, but won't spend a few bucks on a book that is gaurenteed to save you time and much bigger bucks in the future. I always buy some type of manual for every car I own. I can say without hesitation they have saved me thousands and my asparin bottle is full.

may i be completely frank and say that that's not a particularly helpful piece of advice? i have a manual, and often enough, it's kind of crap and leaves out one or two pieces of information and/or diagrams that would be really useful, and if it was helpful, i wouldn't be posting here in the first place. and if you know how the window attaches, it would be a lot more useful, all around, if you'd post "oh, insert part a into part b like this, and watch out for this other part" than just "oh, buy a book", which is almost completely useless advice.

There are some diagrams of the clips in the following link.

When I replaced the window motor in my car, a Ford, I didn't have to remove the glass or regulator. There were three mounting bolts holding the motor in place. I did have to push/hold the window up to release pressure on the motor gear to slide the motor out.

Absolutely no problem being frank. It calms the mind and soothes the nerves.
I've read your thread several times now and don't see the words "I'm using a manual" or any reference to a manual. Since I've had no experience with a Caravan window motor I thought I would do the next best thing. That's why I gave my standard line (as many can attest to) about the importance of a manual to encourage you to buy one. I take it, "May not be your case" did nothing to dissuade you from your angst.
Since you are a newbee to the forum remember this. Include all the details you can in every thread you make so we don't have to guess and waste each others time. Cheers!
KimMG has a point. Do you really have to remove the glass? Apples and oranges but, I've changed several on Camrys and you just remove two bolts attaching the glass to the center guide, push the glass up and out of the way, and press on with the 7 other bolts you need to remove to get the whole regulator assembly out of the door. Takes 10 minutes.
