Rear Window Defogger

My contact for my rear window defogger never worked since I've had my car. It was deattached when I bought it and the dealership just put some non-conductive glue to hold it back up. The glue doesn't allow the defroster to work and I live in New England so I sort of need to have it for the winter. I bought a kit to repair the defogger strips, but will this work to reattach the contact or should I use something else. I was looking for a tape of some sorts to use, but I couldn't find anything that would allow the electricity to flow through. I know the grid can get power because I tested it with a volt meter so I know it was just that the glue that was holding it together caused the grid to not function. Thanks in advance.

the stuff in the repair kit will hold/glue the strip back to the glass. That dealer is a joke !

Should be directions with the repair kit to help you apply it correctly.

just a FYI for the rear window defogger. If you happen to get it to stay on the window, and you use the defogger and it comes off again or sparks, you may have a deeper problem. They normally don't come off the window. There is a resistor in the back seat area that in some cases malfunctions causing the back window defogger to over heat, and melting the contact off the window. I had this problem, I even solder it to the window contact with no success. I also tried the contact glue stuff and that didn't work. good luck

some models do use a resistor and can burn up the grid on the glass.

You'll need a wire diagram of your year/model GA to find where its loacted if you have one.

OK, so I got the contact to stay and I tested the grid with a volt meter and each strip now gets power, so I was pretty happy about that. To make sure it worked I put some water on it and let it freeze. I turned on the defroster and about 10-15 minutes later it turned off without doing a thing and I ended up scraping the ice off. Any ideas why it wouldn't be working now?

well one of a few things happened, either it got disconnected again ( not making contact), blew a fuse or the relay blew. The fuse and relay is under the hood in the fuse block. Just double check it's still making contact

You should test the voltage in the middle section of the grid too.
Should be getting 6vlts, if not then thiers a break or fuse.relay blew.

So I know it's been a few months since I've had this problem and I never got it fixed because the weather got nice. Now I remember that I still have this problem and I took a volt meter to it a while ago and I am getting 12 volts all along the grid on every strip. Is this most likely a problem with a resistor?
