Do rim sizes effect wheel hp?

Do rim sizes effect horsepower to the wheels? Ex. a stock 16 Vs 18 inch rim because of the whole diameter - enertia thing? Also does weight play a factor?

Thanks

well it will effect the unsprung weight and rotating inertia.

higher rotating inertia will definitely slow you down.
more unsprung weight will make your suspension less precise because it has to work harder.

you say you are into drag racing?
if i were you i'd get the lightest wheel i could find.

Were you to show up at a Dyno Jet type of chassis dyno (inertial), and change from a light wheel and tire combo to a heavier wheel and tire combo, you would show a loss of rear wheel horsepower--even though the engine was making the same power in both tests.
Which accurately relects what would happen at the racetrack, unless the heavier combo has more traction than the lighter combo, then the car might be faster.
A tradeoff that people with high power cars gladly make.

as far as diameter, it changes final gearing ratio, which doesn't effect the HP of the engine, but it can definitely effect acceleration.

Keep in mind though, just going to a larger diameter rim, doesn't necessarily mean the total diameter of the tire is larger....it depends on what tire you use. Sites such as tirerack.com has diameter measurements for all their tires, if you wish to compare the before/after options

Rim/tire weight has a very large effect on acceleration. Too often people put those cheasy aftermarket rims on that add 100+ pounds to the rotating mass. Not only does this have a very negative effect on acceleration, it also reduces the braking ability.

Hmm yea I was looking at forged rims from volk. (Te37's in 18x10 in the back 8.5 in the front)

Volk GT-Cs would look better than TE-37s on an RX-7, just my opinion.
