Arent those rear handles from 4th gen sedan? I've seen peeps do that around here, looks clean and might deter probable thieves too. At least the dumb ones, lol. I hooked up power doorlocks that work on my alarm button with a separate switch inside the car to lock and unlock...this could work for me. I still have the rear hatch to crawl in anyway in case my battery goes dead...

yes, they are off the 4th gen 4 door.

funny you say that. i used to have a friend named Jeremy (no, not my Jer) who owned a th gen. he had everything on his 4th gen shaved off. he's lucky he was a skinny punk...i can't tell you how many times his keypad malfunctioned. he'd have to crawl through the sunroof to open the door. what an idiot. common sense tells me to leave the hatch lock :)

Through the sunroof? Thats funny...So Ami, I hope the parts reached you in good condition. I was looking at the pics from Melts and Gregs threads..."Dang, whats that thing on top of Melts car?" Then it came to, oh, they're my hood...:D

That thing was great, the hood absorbed the sun, so the car was relatively cool inside.

Actually how hard would it be to put one with a keyhole onto the rear door and have the keyhole actually work? Cause I cant tell you how many times I have wanted to get something out the back and had to open the front door first.

Ehh, fuck it, I should just get keyless, that would be off the hook.

what happen if your battery dies, then you gotta crawl in through the hatch, makes you look stupid. other than that, its cool. just a reminder to guys out there who are thinking about shaving there door handles, just remeber you cant race at the track if you dont have door handles.

What makes you look stupid is when you leave your lights on, so your battery dies, not crawling in through the hatch.

So, Ami, are you gonna post a how-to on that soon?

Yea, when i saw the pics of your car, at the recent meet, i remember that you put on 90-91 fenders on your car. You have a Tri Colored Car!, Red, Dark Red, and Black. I got 5 words for ya!

IT'S NOT GHETTO, ITS CUSTOM!

What all do you have to do to make keyless entry work on 4th gen hatchs? Wouldn't you have to change all the locks to power locks and all that crap?

The easiest method which is the route i took, is that you get a quality alarm, and tell them that you have manual door locks and that you want door lock actuators on them, and then when you arm or disarm your alarm, the locks will lock and unlock. Its a great thing to have. Also, my alarm (Viper 800 ESP) Locks the dorrs once the engine has started, unless you lock or unloack one of the doors manually, then it will unlock both doors, and vice versa.

how much did that cost you? sounds like alot of money for such a small thing......sometimes i wish i had power locks....but its no biggie

MyFirst4G
09-26-2002, 10:33 PM
it wasnt that expensive, i love my alarm, i have a tripple antenna range thingie with it also. i have a antenna on the BRAIN itself, and one ounted on the front windshield, an on e mounted on the back, you can't really see them cause it pretty much blends in... Well, it only costed me 350 INSTALLED cause my friend has the HOOKUP! His brother works at a car audio place..... Tha Viper 800 ESP (top of the line) usually costs like 450-500 for the alarm alone, no actuators, and no instalation...... So, i was happy :)

Most stereo shops will hook you up with electronic locks for @ $75 per door.

Melt

I already got power door locks:finger:

I could get an alarm, and keyless entry installed for $149 at best buy

i have to say this was prolly the best thing that i payed for. its so much easier to not have to worry to lock both your doors and arm the alarm....when they can do it all at once... it is very nice. that is y i get the door handles....cause i havent used the key holes since i got installed like year and half ago. except... now i have to get them painted....:(

Yeah, I had my manual door locks hooked up to the alarm button too and it locks when engine's started and vice versa. I found out though that when you have the car running and somebody needs to get out of the car, they have to manually unlock the doors...so for additional $50, local guy hooked me up a lock and unlock button just right of the illumination knob where the power mirror control's suppose to be. Cost, $250 for the alarm (installed) $75 for the power door-lock motors (pair), $50 for lock/unlock switch.

actually what would be really cool, is i dunno if the si's do this but on the lx's power windows, if you hit the drivers window once it will auto roll down. I think it would be off the hook if I could get some more of those switches and put em in, then I could roll all the windows down at once.

EF_LSVtec
09-27-2002, 10:29 AM
I dunno if that would work Melt...if you get a few of those switches, they will go all the way down in one actuation but someone has to manually switch em still...What you can do is maybe hook up the other 3 window switches to your driver side main, so you can control all for in one. Or just get an extra switch that you can put somewhere in your car that can control all four windows at the same time.

actually, you could probably turn the lock after ignition feature off on your alarm. a lot of times that is a feature that is programmed in after installation. :)

Probably, just dont know how its done...

Well, my door lock actuators let me unlock them like i normally did by flipping the door lock on the door and BOTH doors unlock, so its kinda the same as having a switch, but not.

wow.....$75 per power door lock? damn that's expensive. when i got my power door locks in i got them for $7.50 each, i put them in myself and a friend helped me put in my alarm. about the keyless door handles i have a link for the instructions. (sorry ami i hope i don't screw up your thread  ) http://students.washington.edu/markpaco/door~1.htm
i'm gonna do the mod if i ever stop being lazy about installing them myself

yeah $75 a door sounds right. I put a python 3000esp alarm with door actuators installed for only $350!! (reatiled 800) from a sound shop :). If i dont get a kick ass deal then i dont get it.
