My son has a 92 S-10 Blazer. The 4X4 was working fine until it snowed and now the lights on the switch will not come on at all. I am hoping its some kind of fuse etc. but figure it will cost him more than he paid for the blazer. I bought a chiltons book but it didnt even mention this switch. If someone can give me a good idea and keep it in english we would both be grateful. I dont have anyway of reading codes. I saw on the forums that something called tccm fuse might be the problem but I dont know where to even look.

Thanks

Just because the light does not come on does not mean it isn't in 4WD. Try to make a slow but sharp turn, if the truck feels like it's pushing against something, it's in 4WD and you just have a burned out bulb.

The four wheel drive doesnt even to engage. He was stuck in the snow today so I got to see it wasnt working. There is no clicking like the transfer case is trying to engage or anything.

Is this a floor shift or push button? Being a 92 I would guess a floor shift.

Put it in 4hi and try turning the front driveshaft. If it is locked then the transfer case is probably good and the problem is with the front acutator.

Its push button on the dash, auto tranny and the vortec 4.3.

First thing to check would be vacuum lines.
I had one come off the vac cannister on mine, causing the 4wd
not to work.

vacuum actuator under the battery.

Check vacuum lines.

Check all fuses.

Thanks I'm getting ready to tear into it. It just doesnt make since, the indicator lights dont even come on when you first turn on the key.

Check the fuses first. If the lights are not coming on, it's not getting power (or a bulb is burned out). If it's not getting power, nothing is gonna work.

Bingo it was the radio fuse. He had installed an aftermarket sound system in the fall. 1 minute fix and less than a buck. Thanks Everyone. Cant figure out why the hell the 4X4 switch is protected by the radio fuse?

ok, hope you didn't put in a larger fuse.
