P0714 TCC question

Ok so this is the only thing our code reader pulls up as being wrong with my car. I think that is the right numbers for the code it says the TCC is stuck off. My question is does that always mean the clutch needs replacing or could it mean other wise? We took it to our tranny guy to see what he says. He said start with the cheaper fixes to see if that works before jumping the gun to the more expensive solution. We already replaced the torque converter sensor and that worked ok for a day then the car started lurching again at 55 mph but stopped lurching once I hit 60 or so. Came home ran the code and the same code pulled up. So now we are going to have the engine serviced and have the screen filter replaced. This will cost us 100.00 to do. If that does not work is the next step replacing the TCC? It will cost me 400.00 to have that replaced. Not bad considering how cheap I got the car. But I want to make sure I do the cheaper repairs before I hit the big one.

And advice or tips would be appreciated? Thanks

A full trans scan can confirm solenoid operation and slippage errors when done by an experienced trans rtech with the appropriate scanner, this is the only way to properly diagnose this in regard to a possible tcc issue.

Hey I just wanted to update this for anyone interested. After I posted this we went ahead and had the tranny service done. Was told that it could take 100 miles or more to know if the service worked or not. Well turns out it took almost a month to find out if it worked or not. For at least the last week or 2 I have had no problems with my TCC. Today I went out and put the code reader on the car and cleared the code for the TCC (hadn't done that since it stopped acting up). I will update in a week or 2 and let you know if I am having troubles again or not. Needless to say even if it does work I will still have to replace it with a year or so.
