I would like you one my probable most complex intend here to present.
This idea goes for a long time in my small model construction brain around, impact for this was the Aoshima De Lorean out back into the future III.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_3836383463303132.jpg
With the kit regard thought I it madly would be if it the locomotive in addition would also give. Then one could represent this scene.

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_6131353332343664.jpg
I believe the idea had already a great many before me, all the same nevertheless wanted I that in such a way to now make. My dear model construction colleague Thomas (Thomsn) gave me the reference it this locomotive as kit gives.
And see there I had the luck such a locomotive to find.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_3335363037353165.jpg
I wanted to see in such a way this model natural to painting like it in the film am. Only it was to be found very heavily pictures of this locomotive from the film.
Briefly vorm it despairs came to me the idea times to look whether a fan PAGE from back into the future gives and obviously gave' s ......
There to me very rapidly was helped and I got the pictures which I needed. But with regard these had I to mine frighten to determine that the film locomotive with the kit locomotive at all does not agree. In the film 6 drive wheels air-fixed the locomotive only 4 and those had was also something large to the extent.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_6639386536643137.jpg
Thus looks the locomotive from the film. This locomotive has the name “Sierra No.3”
Now I wanted to check off this project already times, but then my ambition was nevertheless somewhat stronger and I decided the kit than basis for a change to use.
After long around to fiddle I had to again reject also this idea. It was small from the masses to briefly the extent of the boiler too etc. .........
Then dacht I ok build yourself stop one and now tries I this nevertheless very daring project on the legs äh wheels to place.
And wheels is equivalent times a good keyword. Since there reliably no such wheels as accessories in 1/24 is (at least have I none found) made I to the work and was even caught to such a wheel to building.
Here see to her the emergence of my necessary wheel.
First I cut strong plastic plate out with a circle measurer some rings of a 1mm

Help us to understand your meaning...
Are you going to modify the Airfix General kit (my father had one of those in the garage when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in AGES!!) to look like the movie locomotive? Or are you building the movie locomotive from scratch?!

The next steps in the building of the project are concerned with that?????
(for super, I build which and white not even as is called) I call it stop times Vorwagen. Of the kit is somewhat too short from the wheel base for my Sierra. Therefore the framework must be extended.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_3336643261643035.jpg
Here the original of parts of the wheel admission
Unfortunately then also the leaf springs are too short. For long unfortunately look for in my spare parts depot had I determination which I now also these parts themselves to make must.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_3163376533373938.jpg
From 0.5 mm a plastic plate cut I 3 mm broad touch down, these on those differently to lengthen were then shortened and to end rounded off.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_6665386139613564.jpg
For sticking together I drew again a sketch, which I fixed on a Korkplatte with pins and also directly had in such a way positioned which I the individual parts into its form „to force “could.

Holy cow! I can't beleive you're going to scratchbuild the entire locomotive - even using some parts or the tender, that's an enormous undertaking! Not that you can't do it, but the sheer size of the thing is astonishing. But the work on the wheels and the leaves are awesome. Have you tried to find a G scale (somewhat around 1:24) locomotive more like the one you're trying to replicate? You could probably find a non-operating one on ebay for inexpensively to save you some trouble. But, if you want to build it, go for it! I would love to see what you can do. Remember, too, the counterweights are all different on the drivewheels, so you'll have to make at least 3 different shaped wheels.

Naturally have I tries a model to find. But unfortunately I could not find. The wheels are fortunately not different.
Now I have „the rotary stand “for the Locomotiv finished. The wheel base was extended something, and as wheels deduce from the tender. These I must later however still pour off.

When pouring the front wheels I left a small recess around me the assembly of a pin to facilitate. For this I took piece wire which I by the boring through hole put, the recess became then also par a drop Resin locked. On the wire I put then a bit plastic pipe drauf --and finished is the wheel.

With the circle measurer I cut the disks out of 1.5 mm a plastic plate. These were connected with a 2mm strong plastic plate and fixed by small plastic pieces in the rights angles.
The outer skin consists of 0.5 mm plastic plates, which are rolled up simply on the cylinder provided with adhesive and likewise fixed.

It's no problem. Anything to help out a fellow modeler! Besides, I'm building the BttF: II version of the DeLorean, so I also have tons of pictures of the DeLorean. Lemme know if you want those too, but for now, here are the train!

Thanks for your efforts. But that is the wrong locomotive
I build those, which pushes the Delorean Back to the Future.
Nevertheless thank you.

You wouldn't consider building the one in the pics posted by deltableh? I think this locomotive is way more interesting :-)
Just a suggestion ;-)

The drive unit is now also finished

The next building step was times again somewhat more with difficulty than I introduced itself. With my whole model photos one could recognize only badly like the engine driver cab looked exact. To meet-long investigating I came now on the following result, which as I think quite close of the original come.
The rear side windows one could forward postpone with the original and the narrow back windows downward sink, that can one with my model now also. But not for the reason thereby one these up and to push later knows, no, I did this because I with the later building steps the work somewhat to facilitate would like itself.
The side parts of the cab are from 1mm strong plastic plates
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_3162306132613235.jpg
To give with some window frameworks a thin plastic strip bonded around the disk a better stop.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_6162316166373362.jpg
So and here the pictures of the engine driver cab with the differently opened disks.

Now the engine driver cab is united with the remaining one part the locomotive already built.
As in each case all provisional fastened therefore also the board hangs somewhat downward.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_3435656134356636.jpg
The tail range is now in the rough finished.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/35/5374835/1024_3035313431303464.jpg
The part illustrated here shows the soil of the cab with the conclusion part at the late trailer coupling for the tender is installed.

But won't the plastic melt when you light the fire in the boiler? This thing WILL work, won't it? ;)
