First time builder here...questions..

Hey, I'm a first time builder and first time poster and I've just started working on the Tamiya R34 GTR Skyline. I have a few questions to start with. I've done a little reading up on here and I went out and bought some grey all-purpose automotive primer, 1000 and 800 grit sandpaper, and some blue "import" automotive spray paint at Advance Auto parts today. As of tonight, I have wet sanded the body of the skyline with the 800 grit sandpaper and applied 2 coats of primer. I was just wondering if I have to apply coats of primer to the other parts of the body such as the front and rear bumpers, sideskirts, spoiler, and sideview mirrors. All these parts are very small and would be kind of tedious, if not impossible, to sand primer off of. Would it be OK to just spray the paint directly onto the bare plastic of these pieces? Should I spray the body separate from these pieces or should I glue these pieces to the body first, THEN spray everything as a whole? I appreciate any help that anybody can provide.

Well, Josh, welcome here. To answer your question (mind you, it has been answered several times) - yes, you need to primer everything, especially using Auomotive paint (to find out why you will need toread the FAQ). Also may I suggest white primer for blue paint.

As Alex said...you need to primmer everything.
As for the sanding of all the parts etc...as long as there are no bits in the paint it is alright to paint straight over the primmer

A kit like that where it has separate front and rear facia's and side skirts, I find it a good idea to prime the parts separately. When you get ready to paint it, tape the facia's and skirts in place from the inside of the body and leave just a tiny gap so the paint covers all the edges. This way all your body parts will have the same amount of paint on them, important when painting with metallics and pearls. You can assemble the rear spoiler all except for the thinnest top layer to paint it as one piece, and paint the side mirrors seperately. :)
