Hit and Run accident.

Alright so I got out of school today and i was in a hit and run accident. I was making a left turn with the green arrow when a lady made an illegal u-turn with the red and she hits the left side of my car. My door was completed destroyed, etc. Well, a very nice man stayed and went to where I was telling me if I wanted him to stay so he could testify for me, I said sure.

The lady was an illegal Hispanic lady that told me that she didnt have any license or anything and she wanted me not to call the police. I did call the police though, you cant trust people. But she just went quickly to her vehicle and left. Me and the man got her license, car color, make etc.

When the police arrived, the man explained everything to him but somehow the cop wasnt believing the story and looked doubtful and asked the same thing like 5 times, which I dont know why given the fact that the lady left, and I had someone testifying to my case.

So after he finished the report etc, the police gave me a white slip with a case number and told me to go to the police station on monday/tuesday to pick up the actual report. Why is this? Last time I had an accident (not my fault either) I was given the report on site.

The slip says they are investigating blah blah. Could this be because the other vehicle ran away?

I am just clueless on what to do and as of right now I am calling Allstate to report the accident.

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dam my firebird looks like shit now.

Sorry to hear about your car. I was in a hit and run once, and the cop came to my house. If they haven't found the lady yet, the report isn't finalized. Make sure you file a claim with your insurance company and be on the cop's butt about the report to make sure everything goes smoothly.

What state are you in?. Certain states like NY have no fault insurance which is included with liability , where if the other driver is not legal or doesn't have insurance. Your insurance will cover to fix your vehicle but I agree with SG that sucks.

Im in FL.

Btw, this doors suck. I mean, the hit wasnt much at all, I mean, the lady was coming from a dead stop and I was making a left turn at like 30-40mph and the door basically disintegrated. It is made of fiber glass only and the whole outer shell is loose now, all the window glass inside is shattered, etc. I think that same hit with a regular door of metal, it would had caused just a deep bump instead of the whole door being demolished.

I suggest contacting a Lawyer, it will be a great help. You have a witness on your side too, that will be helpfull. If for some reason the Police drag their feet, just be persitant. Obviously yor not at fault and should be entitled to whatever compensation or justice you can get. And like FormulaLT1 said, if you have full insurance, there shouldn't be a problem. Hope this was helpfull.

Florida is one of the 12 states with no fault insurance. You should be able to get your insurance company to fix your car. No matter if she has insurance or not.

True, stuff like this really piss me off. I would have wanted to chase the lady down and give her a piece of my mind but what good is that going to do? Not a damn thing.
What did the cop say? Did they run the plates? They should have got a name off the plates so they should know where to start looking. The cop acting all distrusting, f--- him he is mad that he could not finish his damn donut.

he diddnt give you a copy of the report because he cant complete it on the scene withthe other driver taking off. Give the guy a break. questions get asked multiple times so that we get ALL the info possible. that is how little details that you might not think are important but that help us come out.

Now, at least in my department, it gets handed over to a traffic investigator who tracks down the other driver and pursues that. But it also falls on you. you need to go to the station and talk with him, ask for updates every day or so. Show him that you are involved and want it resolved. Dont be an a$s, but make your presence known. this shows that you D want it resolved and that it wont just go away. So many times I have responded to this same type of scene only to have the driver not contact us later, and it never get resolved.

Actually John, the 'no fault' thing in Florida only applies to personal injury. Property damage is still covered by the at fault party...
