so i got home around 4pm today, and i was greeted by this:
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5659/img0148ys3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
so it got me thinking, my dog is always there, and is always happy to see me, it kind of makes you feel good knowing there's always someone at home waiting for you. even when everyone's out of the house and i'm all alone, i've got my dog to keep me company, so i figured i'd start a thread about it.
anyone else have any dogs, what kind, how old.
the one posted up top is Abby, she's an 11 year old golden retriever. i've had her for most of my life (i'm 18 so i've only been dogless for 7 years).

aww.... she's sweet.
i want a dog but my mum doesn't want one. i want a German Shepherd (alsatian) like my friend has, well maybe smaller. my mate's dog is about 8" taller than a "regular" german shepherd.

wow that really surprised me. as i was making the thread i expected you to come in with some kind of comment about a dog being a "companion" when you're "alone" and that kind of thing.

i really want a Dog, but my mum makes the rules in the house. sometimes i go to my mate's house to talk to his dog, he's a good listener, and very obidient.
i'd like a dog to keep my company, i'm alone here a fair bit, they're great pets. well, they're more like family members.

I want a dog too. My mom has never let me have one, she has a no pets in the house rule, and we've never had a yard big enough for one to be happy in.
When Chris buys me a house, I'll buy him his german shepherd. But I'm getting an australian shepherd.

Had a few dogs over the years. We actually just got a new one about 2 weeks ago. It's a 2 year old black lab/rottweiler mix we got at the Philly SPCA. Best temperment, and a complete attention/affection whore. Only problem we've had so far is the dog gets bored when nobody is home and rather than chew on it's half dozen toys and Kongs, it likes to rip letters apart (usually my insurance and credit card bills :grinyes: )
I don't have any pics of Buddeh yet, but he looks just like this guy

my dog's the same way, she doesn't lick, i've been licked 5 times, if that, in the 11 years we've had her. she's great with kids, she doesn't bite EVER, unless you're playing tug-o-war and she readjusts her grip onto you hand, but she lets go as soon as she notices or you say "off". she used to jump as a pup but we tought her not to. her only real problem would be barking, she does it alot. she barks whenever anyone comes to the house, if a dog walks in front of the house, if she sees a squirel, etc. it's not as bad as many dogs i've known but it's worse than many would like (i personally don't mind it) and she never barks at night. in fact i just got home 15 minutes ago and she was completely silent.

I really love dogs. For some reason when I was little and got bit by a gopher I became scarred of dogs, except for the ones I knew well. But I eventually got over that around middle school after being around a rottweiler that was so sweet.
I'm sure I'll get one of my own someday, but I'll just enjoy my friends dogs for now.

my dog is both too smart and too stupid. she can get by nearly any barrier we put in front of her, mostly because my parents underestimate her determination. today i go outside to my car, and i see my dog shewing on a t-bone from some neighbors garbage, she's a little scavenger, well i see that the wrought iron fence isn't closed. in the winter our fence shifts so that the latch doesn't fit into the lock so we usually put some bungee cord on to keep it shut. so anyways, the bungee cords weren't on so obviously my dog would get through. so i put some bungee cords on and stuck her in the backyard. i get back 15 minutes later and she's out front again, so i guess the bungee cord wasn't strong enough to keep her back there, so i get a longer one and wrap it around a few times so that it's hard for me to push it open enough for her to get out. as far as i know she hasn't gotten through this one yet.
this same dog figured out how to open her cage when she was only a few months old, found out how to open doors with a door handle installed, then we replaced a bunch of door handles with round door knobs, and SHE FIGURED THOSE OUT, WTF. she's also been able to open screen doors, get ontop of stools to open door knobs, she's too smart.
but at the same time she's too stupid to understand why she's being punished if we catch her later on. when i cought her outside she had already been out there for about 30 minutes, if i punished her she wouldn't understand why. so the problem is that she's really good at doing things she isn't supposed to do but she's too stupid to understand the punishment.
