use a power-washer, also a descent degreaser if needed, just don't pause to pick your nose while spraying your loosly fit distrbutor cap or your alternator.

:D Get it done professionally its the best way. Go to a nearby Car Detailer Shop or any shop that provides Engine Steam Cleaning Service. It will cost somewhere around $20-$40 or even cheaper, depending on your location. You might end up screwing it big time if you do it yourself, like Duatone indicated, getting the distributor and alternator wet. The shop will take the precaution not to get these parts wet. How good or detailed the job is depends on the shop that you go to, so go to a good reputable shop. Look for the one with a lift, this way you know they'll be able to clean under the engine thoroughly. Just expect a minor problem with the engine afterwards, can't be specific on this since I don't know how yours will react. Like what I said, minor, nothing major that will cause you to be stranded somewhere. This is normal occurrence when certain parts are still wet, it will eventually dry up completely and go away. Also a good time to look for the source of oil leaks after the steam job. Normally, I get mine done every four months but more often during winter months, to get rid of the salt built up in my under carriage.
