mini spool?

ok so i want to get some 3.73's to put in my camaro and i wanted to put in a mini spool. But all i see for the 10 bolt 7.5 rear end for my car is the older style 26 spline and not the 28. Does any one know why or where i can get one? Can you just weld the axels together? or will it break?

If you plan on driving this car any where do not put a spool in it. You will probably not like it. There is also a good chance you will break something. Welding the gears is not a good idea either, same problem as a spool but the strength of the weld will always be suspect. I would try a locker. They are more expensive but you definatly get what you pay for.

plus if you read in summit, it clearly states they are not for street use, they are meant for circle track cars

I also wouldn't recomend a spool, unless its only a drag racer (meaning no street use), #1 you will go thru tires way to fast, #2 the squalking of tires everytime you turn gets annoying, #3 your probably going to break an axle shaft in time, it stresses the crap out of them.

When I rebuilt the rear end in my 02 T/A I seen I had a true trac diff in my car, I was very suprised and happy to see what it had in it. The true track doesn't have clutch plates to wear out & is much stronger then the normal limited slip diff case, it uses 8 helical gears to lock the rear end together when torque is applied, and still gives you the "free wheel" to turn corners. Oh and by the way I work for a company that makes axles ... in engineering, I have beat on my car and not had a failure of the diff yet, spun a pinion head bearing, but no work required to the diff. I put 3.73's in my 02 t56 (6 speed) car, if I had it to do over again & wasn't rebuilding my trans at the same time I found the rear end problem I would have went with 4.10's, kinda wish I did now since I see that the 3.73's aren't much different then the stock 3.42's the car came with ... would have been an extra $250 part for the diff (had I decided to go with 4.10's) at the time that was too much cash.

ok thanx alot guys. Well i guess it will stay a open diff then with 3.73's. Kinda sounds like a waste. And the 3.73's will be plently for me since i have the stock 2.73's in there now.

I put a Spool in my 71 mustang. My god that was annoying and within two months my axle broke.

an open diff is "one wheel peel", I am in no way suggesting you go with that, I suggest you go with a "posi diff" or its refered to as "limited slip", they give you two wheel peel & the cornering ability ... if you change gears and don't put a posi in there you will be dissapointed.
