Hey all,
I have a problemwith my driver window, mine is a 2 door power window. It will go down at normal speed, then sometimes just stop and when I push up or down, the window doesn't move, then if I leave it for a few minutes and push the button, it will go at normal speed again, I don't think it's the motor, because the window would move slow if it was that, but it seems to be going normal, aside from this problem, help would be appreciated, it's harsh having a window stuck down in the cold winter. Thanks.

Shit. So what do I do. I thought it wasn't the motor because it went at normal speed. Anyways, what's it gonna cost for a new one or one from the scrap yard and how hard is it to put it in myself....god damn Cavalier, every week something is broken on it....

dont bother with a junkyard part unless you want to be replacing it again soon, these motor dying are a common problem and using a junk part will just die quicker.
Its not hard to do.. but not easy either. You need to drill or grind out some rivets and then replace them. But its a pain to do.. so i just got my mechanic to do it. With parts and labor i believe it was around $175CND.
If you do it yourself be sure to lube the track up real good.

$175 to fix a window?!?!?!?!?!? That's a huge ripoff, maybe I wont bother and leave it broken.........can you breakdown the price you listed, because I can get a new motor off ebay for $30, its brand new and will do the job, and I have a mechanic that will do work for 25$ an hour, leemme know!

well if you got a mechanic to do it for $25 then it should be alot cheaper.
Breakdown:
Window Motor: $75-85CND
Labor: 1 1/2h @ $60/h= $90

So if I get the motor for 40 shipped, its should only cost me 90$ max yay.

hey, dealing with this window for the last few weeks and asking mechanics, I think the motor may not be dead. It goes down at a decent speed until it hits the spot where it stops, but when it stops, it sounds like the track and grooves its in are dry and it sounds like its trying to go down more but you hear the rubber on glass sound, like a dry shoe rubbing a window, the mechanic said the track and grooves may just need lube....if thats the case, how do i do it, i have no idea where to start or what lube to use....thanks!

its the motor... while you are replacing it you will see the track, lube it up..
But its the motor thats dying, just lubing it will not fix it.. it will stop working one day.

Your gonna have to take off the door panel, you can see the track after that.. its behind the plastic. no idea what kind of lube to use.. maybe ask your mechanic.. or someone on here can suggest something.. i just got my mechanic to lube it up when he replaced my motor.
i hope its just that.. but i have a strong feeling its a dying motor.. and its a real pain to deal with a window down and no way to get it back up.
the motors on these cars are a common thing to die.

Great news!, all it is is a partially broken track, he lubed it up and put the track together and works like new, wasnt the motor, goes down nice n fast again :) The only thingi may need is a $10 track if it does it again, I lucked out. :)
