94 achieva S where is the thermostat

Help I cannot locate my thermostat on A 94 achieva S with a 2.3 quad ohc engine. The auto parts store says that it located behind the water inlet/outlet housing. There is no thermostat there. When I try to insert in the hole it falls right inside. Please help.

To add to the good picture and AZ instructions.
I always remove lower rad hose from the pipe and make sure you remove the nit where it bolts onto the oil pan.
Let us know how it goes.

The thermostat is a pain But.
The water pump is a lot harder.:grinyes:
