Gas milage low

Over tha paste couple of day i've noticed my gas milage is really low the car is a 2000 2.2l with about 58,000 on the engine.It hase new plugs n wires and a k&N air filter(not intake) I think it might be the fuel filter changing it today.Could that be it or what??It usually gets 300 to a tank now it gets about 230

You can't really measure it more or less accurately over just a couple of days unless you drive like 300-500 miles a day. And if you have a problem at all, fuel filter is not your problem. Start with tire pressure check.

You have to take into account it winter, and your going to see slightly less fuel savings due to more fuel being injected into the cylanders. However, try running some 93 grade fuel and a fuel system cleaner. If that dosn't cure the problem start looking for a vacuum leak somewhere. I had the same issue a few years back. I was maybe getting 200 per tank. I found a nice slash in a vacuum line this fall. Haven't been able to run a full tank through her since, but i have a good feeling this was the issue.

thank you for your input i changed my fuel filter and used 93 it seems to be running up to par now and yes i drive alot each day.thank you again

haha maybe I should follow some of these sugestions for my car, I feel like im driving around in an old pickup truck with the way im going through gas... checked the other day, holding true at just below 20 per gallon.. was at 25 or more last year about this time.. lol

well i cant really explain "how" i just know from experience its possible, a new fuel filter fixed my poor mileage issue once, and it just fixed dr mambos too

I can't say i ever have had that kill my milage, but thats one of those filters i change once every year as routine maintenace. Alot of people forget about em.

Yea, sure, I did not mean one should not change them. I just don't see how clogged fuel filter could possibly spoil mileage. Air filter can do this no question, but old clogged fuel filter would rather improve your mileage because of forcing your engine to run lean... So I was asking if jakegday knows any explanation to his observation...

old clogged filters make pump work harder. end result premature failure of pump.

Ha, in that sense yea, you just don't have any gas mileage when your car stays home with broken pump ;)
