Hi:
Drove my car to the store the other day and backed into a parking spot.
When I pulled out I decided to back up to go in a different direction...lo and behold "NO reverse." Forward gears are smooth and just fine.
Checked cable operation and fluid levels (no burning) and all look good.
I think that perhaps dirt or debris somehow is plugging the reverse valve control?
Any Suggestions?

I am no expert on transmissons but I can tell you that my 91 has had at different times, a lot of debris at the bottom of the pan when fluid was changed. If the car has never had a fluid change and filter it is possible that that could be the problem, but I would prepare for the worst too with a transmission, just a lot of parts there that can fail. Might try to drop the pan and see how it is, clean the pan, the magnet(where most of the crud will be) and see if this helps. Not sure a flush would be a good idea as that may make it worse, but a simple change and filter won't hurt either. Hopefully someone else will chime in here, if not try the Beretta Forum (same car for the most part) or even the Lumina forum as these cars all would use the same transaxle. Hopefully it is something not to hard to deal with and perhaps could be serviced without dropping the transmision. A good tranny place should be able to do an inspection and offer a solution for a fair price.

If it is full, be prepared it will have to come apart.
