Buying first Mustang

Hi all,
First and for-most - thanx for having me on your forum. I'm from Australia and I am thinking of buying a classic Mustang within the next 12 months or so. I like the 69 fastback. I'll be after a fully restored car, showroom condition, converted to RHD. the 69 apparently had a 289 V8, did they have any bigger engines? I would like a bigger engine. Hoe fast did they go - like 0-60mph? My interest in Mustangs is new so please excuse my ignorance and also, being Australian, not too many people have classic American cars to learn from.

If anyone has any recommendations on good/bad or fast/slow whatever you may think will influence me and steer me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thankyou

Cameron

Trigger,
Thanx for your reply, much appreciatted. Your Mustang sounds nice, almost exactly what I'll be looking for. Are there used car dealers here in Oz that specialize in American cars? Or am I better off browsing 'unique cars', or 'Just cars' magazines to get a good deal? Or perhaps through these forums.

Anyway, I'm in no rush, I'll spend top dollar so I will make sure that the one I buy will be exctly how I want it. Thanx again for your reply.

I'm not sure what sort of times Trigger here gets, but the 351 powered cars (most common in 1969) were supposed to do 0-60 in the seven second range. Thats the 4V version. I dunno what they'll do with modern tires.

No 289 that year, as Trigger said.

7 seconds for 0-60mph is pretty damn fast for a car that age. I get more and more impatient about buying mine everyday.

Trigger, I had a bit of a computer problem yesterday and lost some important stuff, could you tell me that address for the Aussie site again pls, sorry to be a pain in the a***. Is your Mustang as fast as Lizard King suggests? What do you reckon it'll do a quarter mile in? I realise that rebuilt and modified cars will turn out totally different times, I'm just after a general idea of how they went back in their day.

Thanx again

Cameron

The running gear in my Stang is identical to the XW GTHO Falcon and performs the same. I have never timed it but the acceleration figure seems about right:smoka:
This is the link Cam, I have emailed it to you as well
