I recently took my 2000 blazer to get oil changed.. the guy put on the wrong filter and IT FELL OFF , I had no oil!! I pulled off Interstate immediately.. the place apologized gave me my money back plus extra cuz i had to get the stuff and do it myself. About 3 days later I noticed knocking. I took it back and they said it was lifters..but they would not pay for it.. another guy i had listen to it said it sounded like it was about to throw a rod.. I dont have alot of money,,, and i would like some suggestions.. thanks.

It is ovious that the shop that did your oil change was responsible for the damage to your motor. Time to talk to a lawyer or even before you do that Talk to the manager of the shop and threaten to take them to court being that they were responsible for your premature wear. How many miles did your engine have on it?

Is it actually a knocking or just like ticking? Cause your lifters will make alot of noise but I have never herd them actually knock like a spun bearing. Get a good mechanic to listen to it. If its a main knocking, I wouldnt drive it, but noisy lifters are a diffrent story............

I agree with djd99, talk to the shop manager or owner and see what they are willing to do. They should have insurance to cover such things. The next step would be small claims court, which will give you enough to have the engine rebuilt, and you won't have lawyer fees to pay.

I would also get ahold of the better business bureau and bitch up a storm if they refuse to help you. Something like this happend here in town and the person bitched and bitched, the shop still refused to pay. So he sent a letter into the paperand parked his truck in the lot across the street with a big sign on it talking about how the shop screwd his truck up. He eventually got his truck fixed. A dealership in Cincy sold a guy a junk car, a "lemon", and the dealership refused to take any responsibility with the car. So the guy litteraly hoisted the car in the air with a crane right by I-75 with a huge sign saying the dealership sells junk. This made a lot of local news and what not. In the end the guy got a new car.
Basically what I'm saying is any type of car business is a word of mouth business. If you start bitching and making them look bad and lose business, they'll listen.

I worked in a place where a car was sent out with no oil in it after an oil change. The lady saw that light was on, the thing quit on her about a mile down the road.
We sent a truck after it, brought it back to the shop and put oil in it. It did run but had a dry-lifter shake to it. As it got warn, it developed a rod knock. We wound up having to drop another motor in it.
