1989 ford probe idle issue

I have a 1989 Ford Probe with a 2.2 non turbo. I'm having a problem and its driving me crazy. It runs great going down the road, however, it will stall at idle when you put it in gear. It has an automatic trans and it will even quit coming to a stop if you dont help it idle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
