You can't leave such open ended questions. Here are my points...

1. You dont have enough money for a decent turbo setup. Also, if you could piece one together for that price, which isn't terribly difficult, you dont have enough money for supporting mods...Turbo setups are the best way to make power cheaply on a D series, but $1k isn't enough to make a dent.

2. Pistons eh? What do you plan on doing with them. Are you going to boost compression?? If so, i hope you know that an engine rebuild isn't all that cheap and again you dont have enough spare change for supporting mods....scratch this idea too.

3. Air intakes, intake manifolds, exhaust systems, headers....all of those bolt on parts are useless on D series engines for the most part. D series engines dont respond well to simple bolt ons. At this point, it would be better to save your money. People will argue this with me, but be honest...the gains are minimal at best.

4. Nitrous is a feasable option. You could setup a decent dry kit for a few hundred dollars and spend the rest on bolt ons. That would net you about 50hp on spray. It would be fun for a little while.

5. Chips...i hate when people say that. Chips aren't a magic bullet that instantly gains you 30hp. Eprom chips are used in certain ECUs so that aftermarket engine managment systems can be used. These are used on good all motor and turbo builds. Chips on a stock engine are useless. Also with the cost of the "chip" you need to factor in an OBD1 ECU w/ 28pin ZIF socket, Eprom chip and time at a tuner which is usually $150/hr. I can tell you that one from experience. When i got tuned i spent nearly $400. I had a reason though...check the sig for details.

Those are all the points i have. I organized them so that you and others can voice their responses orderly. Hope this helps

Honestly I say save and wait. What's the point of wasting your money now on parts that you may not use later? Put a plan together of what you want the overall outcome to be and buy parts accordingly. If your going to do a turbo setup it doesn't make any sense to buy high compression pistons now just because you have the money for them but not for the turbo setup. You may gain a little Hp but how much money have you lost because later your going to have to replace those pistons with low compression ones. Buy your parts as you can afford them so that they will work together. Also what good does it do you to buy parts for your Y8 if you decide later to do a swap. If you want a real Civic sleeper then you need more than what that D series is going to do for you, granted it's not a bad engine for just O.K. street performance but you're going to find that the D series isn't as strongly supported in the aftermarket as the B series is and the B series engines are going to be able to provide you with more HP overall.

Take some time to mull things over as to what you want to be able to do with the car, do you want to be just drag, all circuit and road racing, or a little of both. These kind of things are going to help you make better decisions in the long run.

I'll second the save motion. Whatever you do end up doing, don't go cheap. It'll be badass for a month. Then you will kick yourself in the face for rushing into it without the funds.

i would save it and do a b seriers swap. you will be able to make more power in the long run and i think you would be happier that way

I did all the stupid little mods, system, intake, rims, tires......DID NOTHING.:banghead: I wish i would have saved it because i would have a B18 sitting out front. But I am getting one soon. So.....I third the save method.....[ its better in the end ]

i know this thread was resurrected, but i'm going to toss in my 2cents again....

I think you should turbo the D because for the price of a swap you could make 250whp....
