just got this truck, I needed it for towing otherwise i only buy Jeep.
For my jeeps i just go to the local pullapart yard and get things i need and even though this truck is great and seemingly unstoppable i do want to educate myself more about it.
What models of the (years and make) chevy family have interchangeable parts for this machine? (the badge on this truck says "Scottsdale")
This is also a deisel 6.2 litre, What is normal maintenance for these? i have never dealt with a deisel before
I ordered the chilton book and the haynes book from ebay already. I am by no means a mechanic but i do know how to read and turn a wrench. plus i am also very tight with my money, its mine and i like to keep it.
hopefully there are more like me here in this forum who spend time getting to know their vehicles.
Thanks for any answers i get from everyone
Edit:
i would like to install a plug setup to i can plug the glow plugs into the house voltage overnight and i want to put battery charger under the hood to plug in also. Any suggestions? (i am considering instaling an inverter in the rear cargo area to keep 110 voltage available in the field)

HI, from 82 to 91 almost al parts are interchangeable, the engine (6,2)are not the best you can get in a chevrolet, but it is a bit cheaper to use than a 350 if you don't have the maintenace in your calculation. Glowplugs and relay, worn nozzels ,oil leaks, cracked heads and head gaskets is the most comond failure on these engines. Cange your dieselfilter twice a year and engine oil at every 3000 miles. And let the engine run a bit before you go and when you stop for heating up and cooling down. Good luck with your new truck!!!
And forget the glowplug project, never use this for any other cause than starting. These wil burn up fast connecting these to a powersouece for a longer period of time. But you can use the coolant heater placed in the engine block for easyer start.
