Every so often, my anti-virus software pops up telling me that my computer has been attacked from the address 2.XXX.XXX(whatever). It seems to be the same address nearly every time. Is there a way to find out what/where this is coming from? I know it could just be a certain website, but could it be a possible hacker? How would I know? thanks

usualy it's the firewall that shows the attack alerts. i get hit so often i just turned the alerts off. you can call your ISP and see if they can trak the ip down.

LOL, I get that a lot on service calls. The one I remeber most was when the assistant pastor at the Baptist church wispered something simular in my ear about pop ups he keps getting.
go ahead and ask your ISP and if it comes up as something embarrasing just play dumb. they see this stuff come up every day.

Six rounds from a .44 magnum, right into the motherboard, that'll stop it.

lol! I got it! "My brother has been using my computer and I keep getting these pop ups saying that my computer has been attacked. I don't know what it could be because all I use it for is checking my e-mail." ...that oughta work! I could even take it a bit further. "I just got this used computer from a friend..." oh my. I'll use the previously mentioned link and try to figure it out myself before I ask, but thanks for the advice!

Well I am getting a new computer (whenever it arrives). And mine has been acting really stupid lately, I can't even go to Internet Explorer. It acts like it is loading but the screen never pops up:banghead: Stupid windows 98!! The only way I can get online now is to right click iexplorer and click on "explore." I will certainly keep the .44 mag. in mind!

Any computer still running Windows 98 needs to be put in the junkyard.

yeah yeah yeah. you should've heard the lady from HP when I told her I was running windows 98 and how big my hard drive is and how much RAM I have. She couldn't believe that it still ran! But hey, at least I finally broke down and bought a new one! Windows XP with free Vista upgrade! woo!

If it was me, I would spend the $5 or whatever it is to get the upgrade, and then it would sit on a shelf in my house until they actually work the majority of the remaining bugs out and atleast SP1 comes out. XP is sufficient for the next year or so yet, if not 2.

that's exactly what I plan to do. I'm gonna leave XP in there until there's a good review of Vista. I don't want to find those Vista bugs the hard way. XP seems to be fairly decent so I'll stick with that for a while

98 is still far more stable than XP, i decided to skip XP on my desk tops and move to Vista when service pack two comes out. but then i still have the origional PC in my garage. 8088 processor, 64k of ram, dual 128k floppys, no hard drive and DOS 1.1

98 more stable than XP? Righttttt.
DOS is the most stable MS OS ever, suggest sticking with that.

Thanks for the chuckle. I don't even need to say anymore, you already showed your intelligence level is far below what you give yourself credit for.

Have fun running 98 for another 2.5-3 years. And who said Vista was so stable? You must have so much experience with it to make a claim like that, inbetween your Win 98 sessions...

that's a good thing, for me then right? haha. I have so many problems with '98. It could be that I have such little RAM and my processor is like 6 years old now. Are there any specific problems with XP though?
