you walk into the airport, go to departures, find the desk for you to check in at. they'll check your baggage and whatnot. then you go screw around for a while if you've got time, i suggest going through security as soon as possible so that if there are any complications you won't miss your flight. when going through security, just remove anything metal, watch, belt, etc. to make the whole thing go more smoothly. once you're through, find your gate so that you know where it is, then you can kill some time.

It would help if you told us which airline.

If you booked with Southwest, go online 24 hours before your flight and check in for your flight, then print your boarding pass. This will help you secure optimal seat position on the plane. When you get to the airport go to SW and check any luggage you have and go to the security gate for the gate your flight is departing from.

Through anyone else, when you arrive at the airport, go to the area signposted for the airline you're travelling with and look for their self-help check in kiosks. Go to the kiosk and swipe your credit card (the computer uses it to confirm ID, there is not going to be a charge), then enter details as it prompts you. Once you're checked in it will print your boarding pass.
Check any luggage you have and then proceed to the security check point for the gate your plane is departing from.

Get through security and go find the departure gate and relax until they start boarding.

Oh for the love of God, if you have to go onto the tarmac to your aircraft just follow the instructions, don't get some idea in your head that the plane taxiing down the runway is yours and run after it flailing your arms trying to get it to stop. It's not a bus, he won't go "oh sorry mate" and let you on.

True story the AVSEC chief at Chch airport told me.

Best advice, get there a few hours early and find the bar. Being tanked at a few thousand feet is what flying is all about! :bigthumb:

Except when you are denied boarding because you are intoxicated; your luggage gets on the plane, you don't :grinyes: Ever see that show 'Airline' or 'Airplane' not sure which, anyway it's some reality show that follows employees of SouthWest airlines dealing with different problem customers. (Basically alot of drunk people being denied boarding) Plus the airport bars are f-ing expensive.

That's why people pop a xanax. Nothing like having your parasympathetic nervous system shutdown at 30,000 ft.

Nobody mentioned liquids are banned from your carry on. No water, lotions etc before the security. Then open your wallet inside the secured area and buy some. Doesn't matter if the bottles are sealed. Nothing over 3 oz. But the Koisk's do make your check in much easier. Look for them, no lines!!!

Eat beforehand.

Airport food is expensive. Airline food is shit.

*edit* Nevermind, just realised he's already long gone.

drink on the plane, because of the pressure and air and all that, one drink in the air is equal to three on the ground.

How do you figure that?

The pressure inside the cabin is the same as at sea level.

maybe. i'm just going by what i've read. i assumed it was the air or cabin pressure or something. it just said that one in the air is equal to three on the ground.

hey guys. airport sucked. colorado's great though, it kicks ass. some of the most amazing scenery i've ever seen, and all that jazz. but yeah the airport sucked, it was confusing and gay. denver airport was F*cking insanely confusing. theres a damn train IN the airport... anyways... yeah i was pissed about the lighter thing, but i already figured that one out. they made me take all my shit out of my laptop case and put the computer by itself in a bin; i had like 5 bins of shit rolling down the stupid conveyor belt. anyways this is way of topic so im out

According to wikipedia, the average altitude in a pressurized cabin is about 8,000 ft.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabin_pressurization

Also, according to Harmony Airways, cabin pressurization can almost double the effect of alcohol.

I've read the same book....

Correct Nicole.

The pressurization system pumps air into the cabin, and there is a relief valve, or controlled leak, on the opposite end that regulates the pressure. Since there are virtually no medical effects up to 8000 feet, that's what the airlines run as "cabin pressure" at higher altitudes. They don't run a higher pressure (and thus a lower altitude) as it's safer and cheaper not to do so.

Since there is less O2 in the air, it basically increases the ratio of alcohol in your bloodstream, so at altitude drinks are more effective. :grinyes: But the buzz goes away when you come back down. 3:1 might be a little high, but hey it's all good.
