Enzo FXX

After some progress during the Christmas holidays I have finally got something done on my 3rd car model so far. I predict that progress is going to be slow unfortunately because of my degrees and alot of work aside from my hobbies are my higher priorities. But I'd like it to be completed and I'll update major progresses when I can. Advice and constructive criticizm would be very helpful, especially in a place dedicated to people who take modelling as a top hobby. Well, after about 3 weeks :shakehead I've completed precisely three steps from the manual and got the buffy engine done.

All engine components are painted with tamiya acrylics all except the cam covers which are painted in blood red from warhammer paints, since I think it has the slight orange shade that replicates the actual cover better than tamiya red. Cigarette foil was also applied here to buff realism, and they were applied carefully with light brushes of acrylic clear. I decided not to wash the engine cast with black but some old "residue" from titanium silver which gives it a lighter but as I found out a more dirty, greasy look to the engine block. Regarding the heat stains; well I can't muster alot of professionalism here because it's my first time applying them to the exhausts. I used clear yellow, orange and smoke blue. I think smoke blue is less concentrated than clear blue and so less thinning was needed when applying. Maybe it's easily excessive weathering and I'll learn to apply less in the future. Certain screws and bolts were painted in either gold leaf or titanium gold (the latter being the more suitable colour in my opinion) Well that's all I've done since the end of last year and I can't set myself any guranteed deadlines, but I'll get my work cut out on it whenever I have free time and hopefully come around again when I finish something significant (rear uprights next probably).

Now I have 8 Tamiya Enxos/Fxx's. My fiance is about to kill me.

Anyway, anything special to do on this one?

Well, the seat belt from the etch set is not really for the taste of enthusiasts so I brought a seperate seat belt set from Modelers which includes plastic buckles as an extra option. Anything special....hmm I'm planning to paint the body in racing blue with a base undercoat of coral blue; I'm not sure if this works but I'd like to try and see if the light color basecoat would give racing blue a less "darker shade". Maybe I should've went for mica blue to simplify things but since the decal stripes need clear coat protection anyway, I decided that a metallic blue should go with it giving the use of clear coat a defined purpose. I'm thinking of giving the FXX my fav racing number too, as I have leftover number displays from the LeMans GT40 68'. If that works out then I'd be putting them on the gullwing doors. Further on into the engine build I'd like to add additional components with close reference to reality images, and I've prepared suitable craft materials/styrene for it later in the build.

Games workshop's blood red realy does work doesn't it. i used it on my 348 and it came out perfectly. and the car will be posted once i get the rollcage painted and put in.

Woohoo, sickface returns for another update in over a month!:grinyes: I'm having a CNY break for a week so I'm able to get back to my own matters for a while. Bleh, I know it's seriously too slow to muster interest of any sort but to be honest I have been working on it whilst I wasn't here and I just have a knack of posting big updates instead of small ones (e.g. "here I am placing a decal over part A and cutting part C off a branch, YAY.) What I have done is further detail the engine with scratch build components, and tried to present them as tidy and accurate as possible.

I've used some styrene, some flexible steel wires (I've now brought a role of 1mm super flex ones), rubber tubes, craft string and gold foil wrapping for the major enhancement. The craft strings for producing fancy DIY jewellery aren't easy to work with since they are ultra stiff when cut to about 3mm long and since they are so thin (0.5mm) they slip off your tweezers quite often when you're about to put them in place. I used them for the distributors so you could imagine the hours of hell trying to get 12 of them right :banghead: . The other wiring bits were easy to bend to shape using pliers but more care is taken with the measurements and cutting them to the right size will reduce time trying to correct them and perfect the fitment. The engine frame and suspension is painted in S-G black and gun metal, whilst I also added some gold foil to enhance reflectivity of heat and also make it look more expensive :evillol: .

I'll let the pics do the telling, and plz pop round here more often because there aren't many FXXs around here (surprisingly) and every FXX update has been superb of note. I'll try harder to get things done more quickly!

Does it make sense without "fa" because without it would read "of the" instead of "of the does". I used the word rejoice...Yeah I couldn't find an alternative to prance, so now I changed it to leap/jump; I meant to say the passion of the leaping horse and thanks for trying to lend me a hand here. I want to make sure the agreements are correct so can you confirm that for me, Gionc?

I guess for what you mean the nearest would be:

I guess you know already but the horse shield was the Francesco Baracca's badge, one of the most if not the most important ita aviation's axe of the WWI, Enzo Ferrari had it as gift from the Baracca's mother in 1923, he modified a bit (tail) and placed it over the Giallo Modena background: it was the badge of the Alfa Romeo scud. starting from the '29 and following was and is the Ferrari's logo ;)

I understand you when you say you feel alone, in another WIP of the same car.......
But.....: many people look but don't put a comment or even a critic.
First of al I will say I'm not the king or the best modeller on this forum!
What I should say about your build is:
I think your "wheatering" is overdone, surely on the intakes, even on the outlets.
Wiring is nice, but I should have made them a little bit more round, not so angled as you did.
Sorry for my poor English.
That's what I think and engages only me.
Anyway, I will follow your progress.

Hi man please don't feel alone. Actually I think no one is alone here on AF, it's like a family to me.:wink:

I can see how serious you are with your hobby, patiently and carefully write ups, responsible replies and studious works on the model itself as well. I can see you carefully removed the mold lines, and was trying actively to weather/detail the engine to make better effect instead of leaving them painted or even just assembled. That's really great attitude on modeling and this forum. Although it doesn't look as good as some others' works, well, what can we criticize on a 3rd model?

There're really a lot of top modelers here on AF, walk around you can find many brilliant works, you will learn, be inspired, encouraged from the geniuses, so you're definitely not alone! I'm looking forward to your racing blue FXX! Keep us posted!:naughty: :sunglasse

Not to toot my own horn, but when I notice a build that is not getting recognition, I quickly comment on it because I know the builder will feel like, well I do when I spend tons of time on a car (F430 Hint hint), and everyone ignores it. Seems to be the nature of the forums. I love it here though, we just need to keep plugging away.
