keyless entry

I have a 03 maxima and I bought a new remote for the keyless entry. I cant seem to get the car to go into the program mode. I was told to lock doors and slowly insert and remove key from ignition 6 times and hazards should flash comferming program mode. I have tryed this several times with no luck. Anyone have any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?

Do the key steps FAST...and keep doing them until it responds.

It has to be done exactly right as far as the timing goes.
