96 hardbody head problem

I have a 96 2.4 got it pretty hot.I'm trying to get the head off.I have it all done ,but there is one bolt up under the intake that I cant get out or even see for that matter.Do I have to take the carb off to get the head off?I'm trying to get it out by taking the exhaust off and pulling the intake off.Then pulling the head straight up.Can this be done ? Or do I need to go about this in another way?Where can i get a manual for it? most go to 95 and then 97 up what gives?Will a 95 or 97 manual be the same?
