Blow off Valve??

To be honest, I don't know much about engines so I'm asking this question. Let me quote from a magazine; "He also added...a Blitz blow-off valve to the intake tract, mainly for dramatic sound effects."-SCC I was wondering what this blow off valve was and its purpose. Thanks.

A blow-off valve is used on vehicles with forced-induction systems to regulate intake manifold pressure. The valve opens and vents air to the atmosphere (or back to the turbine inlet) when the manifold pressure exceeds a preset limit. BOVs that vent directly to atmosphere typically make a "whooosh," "psssshhht," or similar sound when they vent.

Yeah, forced induction is only turbo or superchargers...

Yes, forced induction is usually considered a turbo, supercharger, or nitrous. An intake is not a form of forced induction.

Nitrous is NOT a form of forced induction. The addition of nitrous does not affect the intake pressure.

Nitrous increases the oxygen content of the intake charge, so perhaps you could call it "oxidizer enrichment" or something along those lines, if "nitrous" doesn't sound technical enough.

ah, thanks ivymike. thats what i thought, just didnt wanna sound stupid if i was wrong. just outa curiousity, how much do one of those nos tanks cost?(filled that is)
